I've got a motor and was looking at the exhaust ports after taking the exhaust header/manifold off and you can see inside the ports that there is white inside instead of being completely black (still black in there as well). Does this mean I'm burning coolant?

 

I doubt your burning coolant, if you were you would also notice the coolant level in the radiator getting low. It could mean that your running lean, you would need to look at the spark plugs to see what`s going on.

 

I think you were apart of the other thread I had about building up the 22r. I had found a 22r/20hybrid on craigslist that was rebuilt 10k ago and after getting it home and cleaning it this is something I found/noticed. With that said, I don't know anything about the coolant level. The guy said he hadn't had any problems with the engine. I'll pull the plugs tomorrow and see how they look.

 

Can we have a few more details on what kind of motor? 22r? 22re? year?

The motor doesn't leak fluids externally

I know it'll be pretty obvious once I get the motor into the engine, but if I could find such a problem while it's on the stand then it would be way easier to fix it sitting outside of the truck.

Ok, so i finally got around to pulling the plugs today. 1,2 and 4 are chocolate brown and 3 is black. Not quite sure what that means, but I will do a google search. I also pulled the oil pan today and the thing looks super clean from the bottom side and the oil was the color it should be so if it were burning coolant I would assume it would have gotten into the oil through the piston rings when the rig was sitting there. Just not quite sure on the black plug in cylinder 3.

edit: I went and googled it and it seems that a darker colored plug could mean I'm running too rich, which could very well be a possibility with the weber carb. on there and no fuel regulator. The reg. is on my list of items to get, so that may fix the problem there.

 

You are definatly running rich, a regulator will probably help, but if it doesn`t then you might have to jet the carb a little bit leaner.
