I would like to start off by saying thank you for those that have posted their 22re rebuilds. Every question that I have had has been answered about tearing the motor down and what needs to be worked on. I will take the head, block, crankshaft, camshaft, and flywheel to the machine shop today. I am going to order one of the kits from engnbldr and a water pump. I am going to send my injectors off to witchhunter, replace my sparkplug wires, and send my alternator off to get tested / rebuilt / replaced. I believe that I will also replace my clutch with a martin crawler while I down there.

For those who have done all of this before, am I missing anything? Is there stuff that you wish you would have replaced / fixed looking back on it?

Thank you in advance. I took lots of pictures during the teardown, but I did not feel the need to post this process since it has been done before and the fact that I have no idea what I am doing and I am learning as I go along.

yep, a engnbldr rv cam =D

 

you'll also need to bring your rods, the new wrist pin bushings, and at least one wrist pin

the new wrist pin bushings need to be pressed into the rods, and then they have to be machined to fit the wrist pin


that is of course, if you're replacing those...

 

timing cover needs to go with block if its being decked{and it should be}.That oversight cost me an xtra 40 bucks.Cant go wrong with an EB cam!!

 

He asked for all of that and he wanted to look at the pistons. He also stated that the block and head have been to a machine shop before but they looked good on initial inspection.

Note to self: remove all the bolts and label their locations before taking them to the machine shop. I forgot to do so and now I have them in baggies that are not labeled. I assume that I will have a great time tracking down the location of all of the bolts (Intake / exhaust manifolds) etc.....

 

You'll get it, there's enough people on here to help you that have done it already. If you post pics it would be easy for them to tell you where everything goes...especially the super moderator above (probably could do it with his eyes closed!)

 

You might want to take your exhaust manifold in (or maybe header if you're using one) to check if it's true. My factory manifold needed some truing.

I don't envy you sorting out the bolt situation. That stuff scared me, so I labeled and snapped pics along the way. People here can probably help you determine what's what, but next time try to be more methodical and organized.

 

Picked my motor up today. Will start working on assembly as soon as the kids take a nap.

 

It runs! It runs! Good God almighty, it runs at last! Tomorrow I will do the timing and hopefully start driving it.
