1985 22r motor stalling while braking
#1
I have a 1985 22r motor in my 82 yoda pick up that keeps stalling when I break hard, if I ease into and I mean really ease into a stop I'm ok. Now it doesn't do it when it's cold only after it heats up. I changed out the fuel pump thinking I was lacking pressure or there was a pin hole in the diaphram but it didnt fix it but helped, and I turned up the idle speed just slightly as well. It starts and idles fine (idles a lil fast now about 1200). The only other thing I can think of is that it's a vacuum issue but I really have no idea. Any help would be great! Thankx!

I agree with MyYota.
Definitely sounds like a brake booster issue. Try to repeat it while standing still by just mashing on the brake pedal. If it repeats, I agree to disconnect the brake booster and plug the vacuum line.
The reason I say try it standing still is I imagine it would be a little safer and it will help eliminate any potentially stranger issues.

Sorry it took so long long to get back first day off in awhile. So I pluged the brakr booster vacuum line and it still did it, and no there's no change when I hit a bump or anything. And I can't seem to repeat it while it's standing still

ok cus If I remember right there is something on the EIF trucks that is related to fuel supply and braking but not on the carbed trucks.
are you 100% sure its only braking or when your off the throttle (which is usually when you apply the brakes.) I hope you can follow me here.

I have an idea what this might be need both of you to try something though.
make one hard braking each when rolling when off the throttle going slow don't use gas pedal alot. and then again after full throttle for maybe 10 seconds.
I have a feeling this has something to do with your float levels in the carb. and the amount you have for fuel pressure going to the carb.
Are you using the OEM type mechanical fuel pump with or without a regulator? do you have the fuel return line disconnected and blocked off?
