whats the part number for VSS (94 4wd auto, 4runner)

i'm trying to find the toyota part number for a vehicle speed sensor (the sensor that sends the signal to the speedometer from the transmission/transfer case). i have a 1994 4wd V6 automatic 4runner. the part is located on the side of the transmission/transfer case. thanks a million, lyle

Probably Toyota 83181-35051

But do check out RockAuto's website; you're probably looking for an AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 5S4892. RockAuto has photos of the part, which will help a lot in determining if it is the right one.

I've had a lot of luck with RockAuto, but their current price is actually more than I paid at the dealership (7 years ago), so keep your options open.

whats the difference in these two parts besides the price? what my problem is, is that i ordered part number 89411-35010, and its not the right part at all. thanks a million, lyle

ps: also, awhile back i found a great toyota parts website, where you would enter your vin, etc, and you could actually see the price and the part (the part(s) where on, what looked like to me, to be factory service manual scans.)

Where did you get that part #. What is it supposed to be on?

I'm certain that ToyoDIY.com wouldn't give me the wrong part # for your rig. That's completely unheard of(dare I say impossible?).

There are at least two different "speed sensors" on MY 1994 Toyota Pickup SR5 (which I believe has the same transfer case as the Forerunner, but I don't know enough about the trim packages). The speedometer (again, on my pickup) is driven by VSS1, not VSS2 (I believe VSS2 provides speed information for the transmission). The part number that I gave is for VSS1. I am just not able to confirm the part number for VSS2, but I wonder if that is the part pulled up by ToyoDIY.

Here's a collage of pictures from the FSM:

Fortunately, the sensors don't look that similar to each other, so you should be able to figure it out from the photos.

Good luck.

As stated above it's 83181-35051.

There are 2 sensors. The one you're talking about is that above number. The "other" sensor is the $80 one. If you put this number in the site toyotapartszone.com you will get is for $203 with shipping, and that is the best price I ever found.

Does this look like the part you received? (Airtex version of Toyota part no 89411-35010)

I'm 99% sure that's VSS2, which is not the one you want (if your problem is with the speedometer).

The part I used for VSS1 (Toyota Part 83181-35051) looks like this (this, again, is the Airtex version):

I'm not able to determine what part no 89411-28020 refers to; RockAuto returns nothing for that number. ToyotaPartsZone returns a "speed sensor," but without a picture or drawing I can't refer it back to the drawings in the FSM.

But notwithstanding everything I say here, do compare the part in your hand (from your truck) to the the pictures on RockAuto's website (even if you order from someone else). You'll note there are tiny differences in the way the sensors are mounted.

Well Birdbrain, since no ones else liked your offer, I'd LOVE to take that part off your hands if you still have it

I really have no clue how these work, just what it looks like and where it goes... In searching for this part (local pull-a-part failed me ) I stumbled across this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOYOT...s#ht_872wt_939
Other than the angle that it plugs in...is there a difference???
