4runner will not hold in gear...help???

I have an '85 4Runner SR5 with 22RE and 5sp manual. The parking brake does not work, and when the car is parked on a steep enough incline/decline hill, it will periodically every couple of second rock back a few inches when it is parked in gear. If the hill is steep enough, it will not hold, it will just move a few inches every 20-30 seconds. Any ideas or help?

Mine does the same thing if I do not put on the parking brake. Try putting it in 4 low and 1st gear. Definitely chock your tires as mentioned above. What is wrong with your parking brake?

Sounds like you have low compression like me! I carry around a log for a tire chalk.

the pb on my pickup doesnt work either, i use a 2x5 to chalk my tire, if it was up to me id say just chalk the tires, but on the other hand to help you out, try checking compression, thats all i can really think of, like others have said try 1st gear 4wd low for now.
