emergency brake light wont go off

Just got an 83 toyota 4x4, after it was smogged the brake light started doing this thing where it wont go all the way off, it just gets a little dimmer when you put the E-brake in, WTF?

Also, are any of you in Oakland CA? Recommend a good mechanic?

i have the same problem on my 91. i think it has something to do with pressure diffrences in the brake system... although that could just be a 2nd gen thing... do you have a sensor on the top of your resevior... if you unplug that does it go away?

+1. My fluid was right on the "low" line, so as the truck warmed up the brake light would eventually turn off. Top it off and hope you don't have a leak somewhere.

Also if there is a charging problem the charge and brake lights will come on, if your charge light is burnt out this could be the problem.
