awesome 84 p/u and 85 runner find

hello guys ive recently stumbled across two toyotas in central pa on an old mans farm one is an 84 pickup with a horrible frame and an 85 efi 4 runner with a suprisingly almost perfect cancer free frame. the trucks are 1/4 mile from my friends house and will be there for the work so i dont have to aquire a trailer and make two trips to and from my house

lets start with the 84 pickup has a frame thats about to split in half hence the nickname dump lol has a strong running 22r and a five speed in it this will be used for parts for the 4runner such as five speed and engine

the 85 four runner is an automatic (which will have to go) 22re but the engine has a spun rod bearing my plan is to take the 22r and five speed and transfer case and transplant it in the 4 runner and convert it to efi since the runner has all of the harnesses and stuff for the efi

tell me what you guys think both of the trucks hes letting go for 500 and will hold them for me until i get the money hopefully this weekend

nice find. you could probably make your money back on leftover parts too. You will have to modify the tunnel of the 4runner to fit the shifters for the 5speed.

thank you, i do have a couple questions though that i cannot get straight answers searching the runner is efi so swapping the 22r and putting all of the efi stuff on will be cake right? since everything needed is already in the engine bay and all the harnesses are intact, ive heard that the heads are different not really sure though the 22r is an 84, if they are shouldnt be a problem i got the 22re head. if anyone has extensive knowledge of an efi swap can someone let me know about it. also im putting a five speed in a auto truck will i have any ecu issues

The blocks of the two engines are the same, just use the accessories and valve cover of the 22re. Ive heard that the 5-speed swap isnt too bad and with the 84 as a donor car for the pedal, MC, lines, ect you should be ok. Just copy the 84 and sort out the rest. Nice find now get to work.....

Yeah that's what I thought but wasn't too sure I'm just hoping I don't need to get a efi five speed acu. Shouldn't have to though

The ECU for the auto might get mad at you but it should run. There are different ECU's for manual vs. auto.

IIRC, the 22r has a mechanical fuel pump off the head, rides on the camgear. the EFI model has an electric pump in the fuel tank. just an FYI

Do you have a driverside fender in perfect condition you are willing to part with?

as long as you hook up the fuel pump in the tank to the ECM and fuel lines, the mechanical pump could just hang on the side of the head for as long as it takes to get the a block off plate IF one doesn't exist on the other EFI head. I think this may be the least of your problems, as i think the head being different then the ECM expects may cause issues, but i am not sure about the differences in heads...sensors, vac lines,... worse case you swap the head onto the other block.
I will check my 4Ruster when i get home for the block off plate, unless someone beats me to it.
keep us posted

the vac lines would be specific to the EFI intake, not the head...sorry But an egr valve may be an issue, but you could block that off also.
