So my truck has the 3.0 v6 with the 5spd and i'm lookin at swappin to a different/better motor. I also can get a g58 with tcase if need be. I'm considering doing either an N/A 2jz or 1jzgte. Will i be able to directly bolt either of those engines up to either of those transmissions...or if i is there a company that makes a bellhousing that would allow me to bolt one of those 2 transmissions up to those two engines?

 

im in the same boat, i can get a 1JZ GTE round my area for cheap.

 

get a bell housing for a 2jzge 5spd.

they use a w56 trans in the lexus is300 and in the mkiv supra behind the 2jzge motor. you can purchase the bell housing new for about 350 bucks. you will also need to run the clutch and fly wheel through out bearing from the jz motor..

motor mounts might have to be custom. i haven't searched that route.. but for the 7m motor i used factory parts to install. very tight install for the inline six but definitely do able.

 

dont mean to thread jack, just tring to get some facts striaght. if i get a custom bell housing made the 1jz will bolt to my current r150f trans?

 

The 1j and 2j also used the r154 transmission. The r154 has the proper bell housing to bolt to any "R" series transmission, but the input shaft of the r154 is longer than your r150f. The later r150f trannies have an input shaft almost as long as the r154, you will need one of those.

 

^yup he's right. I belive you can swap the input shafts between the trans but im not sure where the post or site i read that on is.

The jz bell is shorter than the m series bell for the R series trans.

You can't swap the input shafts due to the location of one of the gears on the shaft, 1st gear I believe. You can however swap the output shaft from the R150 into the R154. Then what you end up with is having to source an R154, disassemble both transmissions, reassemble one of them and your still stuck with R154 gear ratios.

I chose the custom bell housing route because it was much less labor intensive and much less expensive. Check out my thread on my 1JZ swap. Ill be dropping the motor in this weekend hopefully and should be able to answer more questions on the swap.

 

It would be fourth gear isnt the same ratio if any thing ',first gear is next to the intermediate plate with 5ththe on the other side..

I do remember the article i read the guy swaped most of the parts. Do you have a link to that thread/article?

I still feel u can swap the input shafts . Same gear ratio. The only unknow is the shaft od for input bearing. And the id for the main shaft pocket/ bearing.
