Interco Super Swamper TSL Radial issue...

...Big brown came by today with my 4 new SS TSL 33 10.50 x 15 radials. When the UPS guy opened the door to get them out I immediately noticed how thin the tread was from side to side. The things looked like slightly oversize motorcycle tires. It appeared to be no more than 6 inches across from tread to tread. My 32's are much wider tread to tread 8 1/2" and from bulge to bulge its 10 1/2" I checked the tire size and the new ones matched and were correct other than them being 33 not 32. However, something was wrong. I had the UPS guy hold on just a second while I called to check what was up. A rep at Interco told me this is a "new design that is 1 1/2" thinner from tread to tread and almost 2 inches thinner from bulge to bulge." "They are much thinner than your 32's" he said.
"This doesn't change from the 8 to the 10" wheel.
I sat and stewed for a moment and I decided this will not do. Those tires looked way narrow and funky and according to the Interco guy they will only slightly bulge out when mounted and aired up. So I sent them back. The rep told me the best thing according to my needs was to order 33 12.50's.
Now I have to wait another 2 weeks. It's miserable outside anyway.

good move! it's better to wait and get what you really want than to not wait and get ticked everytime you look at the truck! 2 weeks suck, but you'll probably have those tires for 2-4yrs.

Wow... good thing I read this! i was going to get these tires because I want a 33x10.50. So in reality the 33x10.50 is a 33x8.50? what the hell? So you have to order 12.50 to get a 10.50 size? lol did you get any pictures of them?

is this the tire you are talking about? or is it diffrent?

Yes, thats them. I couldn't get any pics of them. It is pouring rain here in the PNW and the UPS guy was in a huge hurry. He was nice and patient enough while I called Interco to figure it out.
BELIEVE me if there was anyway these were going to work for me they would be on my truck right now.
Ordering SS's up this way is a PITA and expensive.

I wanted those tires too!! HELL I HAD EM IN MY HANDS. I felt the love, and GONE GONE!
Here is the number I called 337-334-3814. According to the guy I talked to (Brain or Bill or something like that) if I want the wide boxy look of my 32's I need to go with the 12.50 r 15's. AND...wait for it....wait for it..... I GET TO SPEND ANOTHER $20.00 PER TIRE So, I suspect that is what I am going to do. If it sticks out a 1/2 inch more than my SS's now I can live with that. I would rather them be too fat than too thin.

Might rub. I would ask a 4 runner owner. Mine is a SAS'ed 94 PU. Lower than most SAS'd rigs but big enough for 33's.

Interco tires have always run a little taller and a little skinnier than advertised. You can always check out the mounted size on their web site.

And even on BFGs, the tread width is much less than the tire's section width:

A 33x9.50 and 33x10.50 side by side:

About 2" difference in tread width:

And the 33x10.50 BFG only has about 8" of tread width:

And don't confuse the section width (number on the side of the tire) with the tread width, generally no relationship between the two except that tread_width <= section_width

I think I found the issue... Superswamper states under the specifications of the 33x10.50 tire that the tread width is only 7.9 give or take. im unsure of the rim toyospearo is trying to run, but if i mounted that on a 15x8, it wouldn't even be wider than my own rim... but then again 33x12.50s are 9.4" wide which would work alot better mounted on a 15x8... its really weird how they made this because a 32x10.50 is 9" wide... not sure why it would shrink so much...? but it makes sense... basically go with a 33x12.50 to mount it on a 15x8 and make it run like a 33x10.50... correct?
