The parts guy at Toyota said they don't sell the bushings separatly, is that true? Where are you guys getting the bushings. Autozone lists a idler arm for $38 versus the $230 Toyota wants.

probably because Toyota always wants to sell you the whole thing. you can also get the part from a regular auto parts store, might have to wait a couple days for it, but i'd figure you'd have to do the same going through Toyota as they never seem to have piddly stuff like that on their shelves. i got mine at Kragen for like $4 each and only had to wait one day. i don't remember seeing a seal in there...what's that all about? i though the bushings seal in the grease.

Yeah, you should be able to get them from the dealer. Have them pull up the steering diagram and show them what you need. Make sure you tell them what year as well as the shaft diameter changed at some point...

I had a idler arm off of a '93 and put it on my '86. I ordered the bushings from someone on here and after taking it apart, the '93 idler arm, I found out that it wasn't rebuildable. My old idler arm is long gone so I don't know if it was rebuildable or not??

 

The '93 is rebuildable, you just have to order the bushings for a '93. I rebuilt mine...

 

I would just buy the entire idler arm from autozone. $38 and be done with it. besides, the one they have someone I remember reading about a week ago said they were the best out there anyway.

the FA5040 is the one that fits the SDORI bushings.

 

Bushings: Toyota Part Number 90386-19005 for newer trucks, and 90385-18068 for older trucks. (you will need 2 of them, take your old ones to the dealer to compare and be sure you are getting the correct set)


Replacement grease seal: Toyota Part Number 90304-31012

 

Do you know what year had the new part #?

 

I am not sure what year the cutoff is. I would get the dealer to pull up your specific year steering diagram, that will tell you which are the correct bushings. That worked for me at Toyota of Knoxville... I know I have that receipt somewhere....

 

i posted the part number for the newer trucks because i was referring to his user name as the year of truck

 

Thanks for all the help with the part numbers. Much appreciated. I will be replacing those tomorrow. I tried to today but couldn't undo the bolts. I just picked up a breaker bar from my friend. Hopefully this will fix the problem.

 

Hey 95PhoRunner. I need to replace my idler arm and am wondering which way you went. Did you replace the whole arm or rebuild your existing?

 

I only replaced the bushings since the arm wasn't actually bent. I'm not even sure if that fixed my problem since during the post bushing replacement test drive my drive shaft failed. That's getting rebuilt now and should be installed tonight.

I needed a breaker bar to remove the idler arm. I hope you have one. Good luck.
