altenator belt falling off

hey. i just finished an engine swap and was bringing my 4runner home tonight. and over about 5km the altenator belt... or whatever that's called fell off 3 times. it would fall off then it would start over heating because it's on the water pump too, so i'd pull over and put it back on... but it won't go very far without falling off again.. what can i do to fix that problem?

First, figure out why it is "falling off"

Check pulley resistance, and check to make sure the belt is not worn or the wrong length. It should not just be falling off.

Also, make sure you're putting the belt in the proper groove on the crankshaft.

If the new belt does the same thing after a few days, might want to check that all the pulleys are aligned.
