4runner parking brake question....

I just did a 5" rear leaf swap on my 90 4runner and my parking brake cables are just about 2" too short to make it back into the drums. is there any other way to run the 4runner parking brakes beside buying the t-case brake kit??? any one have experience in solving this problem?? any help is greatly appreciated!

You might be able to make a piece of cable to lengthen it by putting in a piece where the adjuster is .

without seeing one of that year I can`t really say just how it would need to be done.

I am sure something can be worked out.

i cant use one from a truck because the 4runner has 1 parking brake cable on each side of the axle. trucks only have 1 cable that goes into the drum, then has another cable running across the axle to the other side. if not, ill just have to run the transfer case brake.

Does the parking brake cable run along the frame next to the gas tank ?, if it does then cut the last clamp thats holding the cable to the frame and that should give you the extra length that you need. I did this on my 4Runner and it worked out good.

For the record, a transfer case / trans brake is illegal to use as a parking brake in the USA. They are not illegal to have but are not legal for said use on road.

Got a pic of your setup?

I know this is an old thread but did you ever figure out a way to make your cable work?
