Every oil filter I've taken off turned off counter clockwise....try putting some gloves on to get a little better grip. Sometimes they get stuck on there pretty good. If you're still having trouble, get an oil filter remover tool from your local auto parts store.

If all else fails (ie grippy gloves and the tool.) Pound a screwdriver through the filter at an angle and use it to get the leverage you need.

if you have enough room, try winding a piece of rope around it a few times and pulling on the tag end of the rope

I would be really surprised if you couldn't get it off using some sort of oil filter wrench. They're pretty cheap, maybe like $10 or so

Yeah man lefty loosy, righty tighty. More than likely a little stuck from being over tightened. Remeber when you put on the new one 1/4 turn after you feel the gasket touch. And rub a little oil on the gasket first.
