Quick Oil Drain Valve.....

Going to be getting some BudBuilt Skids before long and I was thinking about getting one of these valves before putting on the skids to make oil changes quicker and easier with the skids.

Has anyone used one of these before?? Thanks

Yes they work great. But they take longer to drain the oil. I really like mine.

nice, but I wish they had a threaded cap with an o-ring on it as a safety . . . even though it's probably fine, I just don't trust a valve with my engine's blood

I guess I could put a rubber cap on it with a weak spring clamp (bigger than the one in that pic)

I don't think I'd trust that thing...My luck I'd hit a rock and it would open on a trail for me.

I've always been warned against those. No matter how good they are, they just won't be as foolproof as a good ol' threaded plug. If they get bumped the wrong way or something gets stuck in the sealing area... seems to easy to leak. My .02 cents: stay away

Thanks for all the comments. I still like the idea of this valve. I don't think that it would open prematurely because you have to push up on the lever and then rotate it. I really don't want to have to take the skid plates off every time I have to change the oil.

i don't understand why taking the BB skid out is such a big deal. i know it's heavy, all 60lbs of it. but if you can find a cardboard box with the right height sits snag between the ground and the skid, that's all you need, man. just take out the 6 bolts then bull the skid out from front while it sits on top the box, just don't underestimate the strength of the cardboard. plain simple as that, less than 5 minutes of my time. with the skid out, i can inspect the front oil pan, diff. fluid level and other stuff.

i switched to synthetic oil, so i only have to do it twice a year, no biggie.

I have that same valve on my subaru. Its been installed for 4 yrs and 70,000 miles. I LOVE it. Mine has never leaked a drop. In fact I had trouble with the copper gaskets on my drain plug leaking all the time before I went to this valve.

do those to have one put a rubber hose on it to go into your oil pan? i could totally run one thru the skid plate and prevent any mess at all! if its under a budbuilt i cant see it getting disturbed too much. not sure ill get it but its interesting. now that i think about it, ill still have to change the filter which will b messy anyway so forget it.

To combat the slow flow rate, I take my truck around the block and drain it as hot as I can.

I've had mine mounted for ~20,000 miles with no issues, whatsoever... I would highly recommend one if you've got a secure skid plate to protect the valve.
