LightForce HIDs worth the extra money ???
I was looking into putting some lights on my ARB bumper and settled on the Lightforce. The main reason is because of their durability and lack of metal construction since I live litterly on the coast and corrosion is a BIG issue.
I was looking at a set of 170 Strikers and noticed you can also get them in 35W HID with a $300 price jump.
Anyone have/had a pair of lightforce HIDs ? Is going from the normal bulb to the HID really worth the extra money? Also does anyone know why type of bulb they take (DS2,ETC)?

IMO, You dont even NEED the HIDs. They are some really bright lights as is. I had a pair of the 170mm striker on my '93 for three years. I could see a moose from about 3/4 mile away.

Can't speak for lightforce, but here's the route I took converting my Hella 4000s to HID: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f131...ed-hid-144713/. I know you're after less metal, but at least it gives you an idea.
Oh and here's a 4pg thread on converting a pair of lightforce lights to HID: http://www.ultimateyota.com/index.ph...6&topic=3414.0

depending on how you are going to be using the lights, they might be worth it. HID's were not meant to be turned on and off repeatedly. The life of the ballast and bulbs will be shortened by doing so. As far as the light output goes yeah, they are going to be brighter. I chose to stay with halogens because of the reliability (no ballasts to go out) and because when i need the lights i flash them on and they are at full power (no warm-up lag) and then turn them off.

Kragen/O'Reilly HID's
We also sell the 4 inch version. To show people how bright they are, we shine them across the parking lot into the Arby's drive thru. The 7 inch has a sort of cat eye to it, where the 4 inch is more a directed beam, but still a cat eye. Also, the price went up, 109.99 for the 7 and 99.99 for the 4. Only issue is that they dont come with a solid cover, so tickets might incur. But, they do have a plastic clip on clear protector that can be sanded and painted to keep them highway legal. We have sold a crap ton of the 4 inchers to the rhino and razr guys, i think maybe 4 to truck owners. Havent heard anything back on their reliability or build quality yet.
