searched everywhere online to find where it is. found couple pics but dont really show where in the harness the plug is.


my 22RE engine and harness is out of a 88 4runner


If anyone has a picture of theres that would be awsome.

where it is, what it looks like

 

Right behind (towards the back of the truck) the main fuse panel under the hood on the passengers side inner fender. It's a little black box. Pull the top off and jumper the T1 and E (I think) terminals.

 

Thats the problem. this engine is put in a rock crawler so there is no locations.

if i could see where aprox the plug comes out of the wire harness i can probably find it on mine.

i dont want to short the wrong plug or something..

 

I'll have to wait until I get home to take a look and possibly snap a photo. Sorry about the mix up.

 

yea on my 91 its where junkers says it is, but on my 86 runner its on the drivers side plugged in to the fender.

If it's not the stock cab... hard to say if things were moved / rewired.
Here's the connector on my 88:

 

i found 1 plug hanging by itself. 2 wires.. sorta near the coil

 

That looks like the culprit...
Can you tell what colors are the wires?

 

kinda looks similar to the one circled in blue


are those just rubber holders? what do those plugs look like when they are pulled out?

wait.. you said 88 harness? if that is the check connector, that wouldn't be an 88 harness.

 

i know its a 88 engine. im sure the guy would have took the wire harness out of the same vehicle.

unless its a split year and the harness changed?

 

Yes, those are just the factory retainers for the plugs:

Pretty simple connectors, the O2 sensor test connector is round with 1 terminal. The timing connector is round with 2 terminals (that you connect together with the jumper) and the other round plug has 3 terminals. Hard to mix them up.

 

whats the round plug with 3 wires used for?


guess ill go try jumping this 2 wire round plug. see what happens

 

As noted on the web page above, that connector has some of the ECU O2 circuit test voltages, like the Vf signal. I think there is some mention of it in the FSM.

didnt do anything

timing still the same at 5 degrees

not much else i can do.

Not sure what you are trying to do, but the base timing not changing after installing the jumper is often due to a bad TPS adjustment:

thats asuming that was even the right jumper connector in the first place..

was just trying to set the timing properly. i just rebuilt the whole motor.

motor runs fine so far
