So did the LC make it out on it's own, or was the winch put into use?

Cool pics!

definetly had to bust out the winch, he was 1/4 the way up his doors in the stuff. it was a LONG ditch as you can partially see in the 3rd pic, so it was a valiant effort.

Even though he had a snorkel, could he have done any damage in water that deep.

well if you dont have extended diff breathers you can get some water/mud in your diff oil but other than that the engine is all sealed up, just DO NOT turn the engine off, gotta keep exhaust flowing out the tailpipes or you could have some problems.

he had some water/mud leakage into the interior at the base of the doors but a shop vac and a hose cleaned that up pretty easy

Those were great pics, but the water doesn't look that deep. At least not when you consider taking water into an engine.

In terms on engine damage, he could probably have gone a lot deeper. Now interior damage from the mud seeping in is a different story!

Someone asked me if I was going to put on a snorkely. With all the holes I have in my body for air hoses, wires and the 2nd t-case, if I get in water deep enough for a snorkel, I'm gonna fill up with water on the inside long before that!

Looks like you had a lot of fun though!

In all fairness I would have been fine (that's my cruiser) if my Newfield hadn't broken in my right knuckle... I was making plenty of head way through the mud when I hit a berm under the water, and the right tire just started to push instead of aiding in my forward progress... you can see it dragging in one of the pics. I found out that I also broke my inner shaft this time... at least it was only the short side, and not the long side... We did have a great time though....

Yup... last pic (#4) you can see that my left is spinning but my right clearly is NOT. Damn weak ass Newfields... Toyota OEM for now until I find something stronger... Maybe it's time to call Bobby in WA and see what he can do...

I have the longfields and am running 37s. I have put these through some serious stress situations with no failure so far. I'm pretty good about not boucing on high traction surface, but I am running ARB lockers (that means it works like a spool when engaged) 223:1 crawl ratio and I have my steering stops turned all the way in.

Cool. I got stuck in a hole like that when I was in college and my truck was all still stock. Famous last words from my spotter: "Go for it, it doesn't look that bad" It was a long, cold walk finding someone to pull us out, and even colder when we got back and ice was forming on the water!

Cool pics, looks like fun. I haven't been off road in months and am hurtin' for a fix!

Gibby-

Thanks for clarifying how an ARB locker works... I had no idea. I just put them f/r in my rig b/c they sound cool when they disengage.

Just messin' w/ ya.

Other factors to consider are that my rig weighs in at 7800lbs, which I am sure is much more than yours... I'm running 5.29's also, but w/ a TRD S/C on the motor so I'm puttin' some serious torque to those poor over stressed Newfields, and I'm sure I beat the crap out of it when I was wheelin' in Moab this summer. I'm broken a few of the Newfields and CV Unlimited keeps sending me more " stronger " ones to try... no dice. I've spoken w/ Bobby about the 80's birfs and he's up for it. Remember also that the 80 series birf is physically larger than the mini-truck birf, and that you can't weld a ring onto an 80 birf... so all Bobby can do is anneal it and cryo it. Wonder how much of a difference that makes... hmm...

Scott, if you'd stop working for a day or two, you might get to go wheeling!

We're planning a Nachees trip in a couple of weeks, probably second or third Saturday in October. Can ya get a day off??

You funny man! They do sound cool when you disengage! I was only bringing up that info because some don't realize that the ARB becomes a true spool, unlike most lockers when do when they engage/disengage automatically. The selectable lockers like the ARB are probably tougher on drivelines because they NEVER disengage. That comment was more for those people who may read this that don't know that :o)

That's a big, heavy rig! Perhaps you need to move up to a stronger mini-truck axle HAHA.

Actually it sounds like a Dana 60 is in the near future for you...

You would think that, but I really would like to keep it all Toyota... Besides, I've seen Tacos w/ Dana 60's and 36's breaking the Spicer joints all day long... Not too encouraging, ya know?

Glad you can take the humor/sarcasm!

Wheel on!
