Crossover exaust pipe removal 3.0
Hi, Maybe I'm just no good at using the search menu because I know I read something about somebody else with this problem, but I just can't find an answer. I am doing a HG job on my 1990 3.0 and am at the point where I remove the crossover pipe, and the nuts that hold it in place won't budge! I have applied penetrating oil and waited. The tool I was using was a 3/8" drive breaker bar with a cheater bar on that and a deep well socket with a very small extension. I have been trying from under the truck but just can't get them to move. Any suggestions on how to approach this would be most beneficial. Thanks in advance.

my dad and I just took the exhaust manifold off where it goes onto the pipe that runs under the truck then just took the exhaust manifolds w/ the crossover off with the heads. That makes those crossover nuts easy to get at.

Remove both heads with the mainifolds and the crossover at the same time. Takes two people, but works great. Then you can dissassemble the manifolds and crossover on a bench where you have better access.
Regardless, you will most likely have to cut some bolts to get it apart.
I did headers when I did my rebuild, I did not want to deal with that crossover ever again.

All right you guys, I finally got them off! It really was the PITA everyone said it would be. I had to cut off two posts with a dremmel and a sawsall (over the course of a couple hours. There sure isn't much room to work in that particular spot!). I wish I would have seen the post about removing everything all at once before I finished. Oh well. It seems like smooth sailing from here as long as all the mating surfaces are all true and not warped. Once again you are all so great. Thanks so much.
