My 4runner died :(

So my girlfriend, my dog, and I were heading back to Kfalls from christmas in my 4runner when suddenly about 5 miles out of Medford bam bam bam bam with a whole bunch of smoke comes from under the hood. I instantly pull over while coolant and oil are pouring out and pop the hood. There's a 4x2" hole in the drivers side of the block and a smaller hole on the passenger side as well. So luckily I have towing on my insurance so I had it towed to my dad and then I'm going to take it to my gf's parents house to work on it. So now I have no vehicle (truck has no snow tires because I sold them and has no front suspension on it) and am pretty well broke after buying spindles for my truck and christmas presents for everyone. Now this week I get to try to find a private student loan so I can buy a new engine and then somehow find time during school and work to go to medford and swap and engine! Freaking sweet so I would appreciate people's prayers with the whole mess! Anyways that's my story........

Oh and the 22re is pretty damn strong since it went about 500 miles with obviously a bent rod (now I know) since I replaced the HG from the hydrolock. It also still pulled 16mpg in 4wd city/hwy with a large load of people and stuff in it. Also had no warning signs, used no oil or antifreeze just suddenly went boom.

You said it had a new motor? Was it rebuilt or a crate throw in? If rebuilt someone might have fcked somethin up.

The problem probably stems from the damage he had. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...hat-do-158843/

Likely the engine was stalled before the rod(s) fully busted. He replaced the head gasket and has been driving it for a while with a bent rod. Well, those things will eventually blow and take a chuck of the block with it. Either that or coolant got into the crankcase and killed the rod bearing(s), seizing the rod on the crank and breaking it.

no joke man it's been a pita should have just kept my sentra.........

and it blew due to a bent rod not coolant in the oil

what's stupid is the previous owner replaced the engine due to a rod through the block.....

so hopefully I can scrounge enough funds for this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/22R-2...Q5fAccessories
or this

I would love too but that would involve more time and money than I have

I think I'll go with the "works" one with the cam, new head, and higher compression ratio pistons.

Look at http://www.sunwestautomotiveengines.com/22RE%20Page.htm I was researching motors this past summer and came across a problem some were having with John of Oregon engines. Do some research as I may be wrong or confused. The posting wasn't on yotatech.
