New toyota owner with lift ?s

Hello everyone, I am new to the site. I just bought a 1984 4x4 Pick up completly stock about three weeks ago. It is my daily driver but I enjoy going out on the weekends and need a lift, nothing too extreme so I am going to install a 5" skyjacker lift. I know I will need: new brake lines and new drag link, which are available from skyjacker, and lenghtened driveline which I will take to local driveline shop. I would like to use the sway bar on road, but would like a "quick disconnect" for off road, how does this affect things if at all, is there any more modifications needed, and where can I get a set? Is there anything that I am overlooking? I appreicate everyone imput/help.

Thanks.

They started the IFS in the 4runners and the pick-ups in 1986, as far as 4x4s are concerned.

Welcome. I have the 5" Skyjacker lift on my 85 4runner. I'm very happy with it. I got the kit so I have Skyjacker hydro shock.
I made brackets to drop the sway bar because without it any turn above 20 was a little hairy. Eventually I want to install one of the aftermarket sway bars like Currie Anti Rock. Save the money on the drop drag link and go with the crossover steering, bump-steer is bitch.

Sway bars are way overrated on 79-85 p/u's and 4runners along with the "torque rod"

Took both off of my 79 (well the sway bar mounts came off by themselves) and it not only rode better, but handled better and offroad performance was great.

Took the swaybar off my 87 4runner (IFS) with the same great results.

Read this thread. It answers a lot of questions that you're asking.

Don't think that the lift is the end-all-be-all of Toyota modifications. Start with the essentials. People can get a lot of places in a stock height truck with the right gearset and linkage that people in jacked up rigs will never see, or never get out of.

If you do high steer (an excellent upgrade BTW) then you need to lose the sway bar as it is right where the high steer parts go. You can rig up a rear mounted sway bar:

And sway bar disconnects are doable:

What exactly is crossover steering, and is there a kit that I can get?
Is there any way I could see some pics of your 4runner to see how the lift looks?
