Custom Hard Tops Anyone?

Hi guys,

I am probably going to get a parts 4runner to get some interior parts and just have some spare parts kicking around and was wondering what to do with the extra hard top I will have. I've heard reference to custom 'summer' hard tops, and have been searching like crazy but can't find any pics or references to one. It sound pretty cool and maybe a cheap alternative to the $1-2000 soft tops. Has anyone done this, known anyone who has? pictures would be awesome

My plan for my '85 top is to cut out the sides to make room for a full length window frame on each side. Windows (Lexan material) will be hinged and/or removable to allow them to be placed on the roof when not needed.

I saw this on another site a while back:

I have considered it for a while, but I want to find another top first before I start to chop one up.

Not mine, but I've started one like this, just not a priority since I have two soft tops and a bikini top.

Sweeeet!

Thanks a lot guys, that is exactly what I was looking for. Yotatech rules! They are all sweet ideas, I really like Dr. Trevorkian's, it seems pretty versatile especially with the covers he had made. Definately have some ideas now and can't wait to get another top and start chopping. Pics obviously to follw.
