when it gets real cold out i get a squealing noise from my speedometer. the truck has been in the so cal desert most of its life so a rusty cable is unlikely more likely all the the lube has dried up somewhere. what kind of lubricant is recommended and the best way to go about it. i was thinking maybe some white lithium grease from a spray can but want your sugestions

The only lube that actually worked for more than a month was "chain lube". You can tear apart your dash, but you'll get frustrated because the cluster doesn't pull right out, you have to feed the speedo cable sheath through the firewall.

A method I find MUCH less of a hassle is to undo the speedo cable from the T case output and undo all the little clips holding the cable to the body and then hold the cable up in the air (so that it is above the height of the instrument cluster). Grab the little metal cable end and pull it out 1/8" and then spray/ pour chain lube in the gap between the cable and the sheath. give it a couple min to drain down the cable, then spray some more. This has kept my speedo sound free for 6 months now.

 

Men shouldn't wear Speedos.

its probably because the needle is vibrating, and thats prolly because the cable needs to be lubed... its a common problem on yotas...

 

cable life works really good on my motorcycle cables i have never tried it on my truck im sure it would work just fine and it comes with a very cool luber thing. not sure if the luber thing would work for the speedo though. I know it works really well for the throttle cable.

 

I use the little red tube provided to spray the fluid down the hole. A similar method has been working for millions of years, no special tools needed.

 

The cool thing about that tool is that it seals the open end of the cable and uses the pressure from the spray to get it all the way through the cable.
