3vze rebuild no start please help

I rebuilt my 3vze and it wont start. I have an oil pressure gauge and i was wondering if there should be pressure while cranking.

it cranks but doesn't start.
sometimes it sounds like a back fire through the intake, sometimes it sounds like a putt from the exhaust, sometimes all I can hear are clicking sounds coming from the engine(I'm assuming spark plugs or injectors going off) these have all happened with the dizzy in different positions.
There is spark.
I'm pretty sure I have all the vacuum lines hooked up right.
I'm pretty sure there is fuel pressure because when I take off the fuel lines fuel squirts everywhere but I don't have a gauge.
Where would you hook up a fuel pressure gauge.
I tested the resistance of all injectors and the checked good.

thank you all very much, drew

Check your timing. You could be 180deg. out. The #1 cylinder has to be at TDC on the compression stroke. It is possible you had it at TDC on the exhaust stroke. The way you tell when installing the belt is to put your finger over the spark plug hole while turning the crank. You will feel the pressure against your finger on the compression stroke and will feel nothing on the exhaust stroke.

Mine did the exact same thing, and sure enough I was 180 degrees off with the distributor, as Rocket posted.

It is worth it to put the timing mark at 0, pull the distributor, turn the crank clockwise one complete turn and line up the timing mark at zero again, reinstall the distributor and fire it up. If you still have the same problem, something else is wrong. Try it and let us know.

Dont rotate the distributor. Pull it completely out. Turn the crank clockwise until you feel compression on the #1 cylinder(#1 cylinder is the farthest forward on the passenger side). Line up the notch on the harmonic balancer to 0 deg. Turn your rotor so it is pointing at The #1 contact on the cap. Line up the notches on the head and the distributor and slide in. It will turn the rotor slightly counter clockwise as it slides in. Tighten the pinch bolt so it is about in the middle of the slot. Try starting. If it starts, go thru the timing process with a timing light and set to factory specs by loosening the pinch bolt and turning slightly. Hope this helps.

Also, just a quick, stoopid question: Do you have the AFM hooked back up???
