What are the big advantages to using performance clutches? I know they last longer than the standard OEM parts, and they have the ability to have better friction, but is that really worth $300+ dollars? There must be some other advantages.

I ask because I'm about to have my block bored over and have some piston rings replaced, and I figure while the transmission is open I might as well swap out some parts while I'm down there.

Aftermarket performance do not necessarily last longer than OEM, but they do perform better than OEM. Alot of people have alot of different experiences with different manufacturers, so be prepared to hear alot of biased opinion on htis issue. I personally would much rather have a quality aftermarket performance clutch over a weak OEM clutch anyday. Brand? Well it really depends on price to me. Not the cheapest, but definately not the highest price either.

 

Also depends on what you use your ride for: a dd that is mildy wheeled with a stock set up wouldn't really need a performance set up. A rig that is a DD and modified for off road may not want 1600lb/ft PP so the 1200lb/ft is a better option. I hope you can see kinda what I'm getting at. I would run stock seaco (?sp) is the make I beleive for whart ever option you opt for. Some swear by Centerforce too, I don't know never used them.

sounds like theyre definitely worth the price. Right now my truck is stock except for a lift and some slightly larger tires. its a place to start for building an off-road rig. What other improvements can i see aside from better friction and power to push bigger tires?

 

i have tried numerous clutches for toyotas. I perfer the marlin clutch great feel no fade and it still works like new after 15,000 miles

 

X4. I'm ordering a marlin in my next pay period.
seeing as how i've heard of OEM's going 200k+ miles, dont buy a perf. clutch for "increased longevity" unless you're building some serious power.
They will grab a bit stronger, hold more power, fade less (if you slip your clutch).

 

So why don't manufacturers include these better grade clutches as a standard package with trucks?

Where do I find a socket bushing? I found the shifter seat, but no socket bushing listed on marlin crawler./
