It really depends on the type of driving you will mainly be doing, but a mild RV cam should give you the most torque through the power band. If you are rebuilding it, you should also go with larger valves. No need to bore out the cylinders unless you have to, not to much in the way of performance increase there. The best bang (more torque, not more HP), is the mild cam, larger valves and a good header so it can breath better.

i don t have a cam in my truck yet but i ve done alot of research on them. the 268 rv cam from engbldr gives the best torque. i am not really sure what it does to your mpg tho if any one knows i d be interested in knowing too

I am in the middle of rebuilding my 22RE right now with exactly what I mentioned earlier. I will post pics of the rebuild and let you know what it does to the gas milage after I am finished. I sure as hell hope it doesnt get worse tho being as how I drive 60 miles one way to work. I have heard and read that as long as you dont have a heavy foot, it is about the same but just with more power on the freeway hills.

Not to much except that it can bring the valves closer to the pistons which throws the centerline of the cam sprocket to the centerline of the crankshaft which can throw off the timing. That can be fixed with an adjustable cam sprocket though. Usually, they just check for flatness on both the block and the head and take the minimum off to get them within spec. I am just getting a new topline head for mine though. As far as the intake, you can port them to allow the air to flow more freely which can help the air fuel mixture. I believe you have to adjust the MAF after porting though. The headers just allow the engine to exaust the dispelled gases more freely, without as much back pressure I believe, to free up some suppressed power. If you use the search feature on this site, you can find any and all the info you would ever need to build your own truck from scratch from what I have found.

See thats itl I dont know half of what yall are talkin about..lol i didnt know it gave you torque instead of HP. but thats as good I guess. although it doesnt help a whole lot on long runs though does it?
