1988 4runner R151F 5 speed 22RE NICE SHAPE! (Central Oregon)

****SOLD*****SOLD****SOLD****SOLD****SOLD****

1988 4runner! Excellent condition for its age, well maintained, many upgrades, including late model 22RE throttle body and intake, and R151F 5 speed out of a 87 turbo truck.

Adult owned, nonsmoker, well maintained, not abused, driven hard or used for towing. I do not wheel for sport, but rather used this vehicle to support camping, mountain biking and ski trips. 181,700 miles. Clean car-fax, clear title in hand. Oregon tags good through Feb 2010.

Rugged, versatile, reliable, economical. Many years of life left in this vehicle!

• 22RE 4-cylinder motor runs great, no known issues, 18-22mpg
• Upper intake & throttle body from 1994 22RE- better idling, throttle response, power, mileage
• 4WD HI and LO range transfer case, works great, 4WD rarely used
• Toyota factory AC, dealer installed in 1998- blows cold! (Have receipt $1375)
• Toyota factory alloys 15”x7” from 2000 4runner, BF Goodrich All Terrain/KO 235/75R-15 tires w/50% tread
• Toyota R151F 5-speed transmission from 1987 Toyota Turbo 22RTE truck (50% stronger than stock W56 trans)
• Complete new tailgate/window/motor assembly installed in 2006
• New free flow exhaust, 2006
• New battery, 2005
• New radiator, valve adjust, minor tune & checkup, 2007
• New upper and lower ball joints, idler arm, tie rod ends and alignment, 2008 (~$1000 including parts & labor)

• Rancho “Add-A-Leafs” installed in rear spring packs- levels the vehicle, increased load capacity
• Nice aftermarket stereo- Alpine CD/AM-FM receiver and four Polk 3-way speakers
• SR5 “Sport” bucket seats, Recaro style, 7-way adjustable
• Variable intermittent wipers, tilt steering wheel, roof console maplights, digital clock, SR5 center armrest
• Shifter console/boot from 1998 4WD Tacoma, has two cupholders

Really nice truck, good luck selling it. (Too bad my little sister just bought a used car in Portland. She would have loved this.)

Where did you get that shroud around your shifter boot? Was that a stock option?

God I need some drink holders other that the hanging ones from Pep boys.

Any rust, i cant tell if its the pictures or not but it looks like there might be some bubbling/rust around the wheel wells?

Yes there is a bit of that. There is also a bit of surface rust on some spots on the undercarriage. But the frame is solid, I have checked it out pretty thoroughly.

I am pretty sure this dates to the early part of this trucks life, which was in the midwest. The rust spots have not worsened appreciably in the 8 years I have owned the truck here in Oregon. They are superficial compared to some rigs you see, and nothing to be overly concerned about, in my admittedly biased opinion...

No, that is a shifter boot and frame out of a 1998 Tacoma Xtracab 5 speed 4WD. To attach it, I had to screw some small pieces of wood to the transmission tunnel underneath the boot that aligned with the screw holes but that was not really very difficult. It is sure nice to have decent cupholders!

Why can't you be closer to Oregon!!

I see you have a Nissan. My first 4WD was a 1985 Nissan Kingcab, bought new and driven for 15 years. A gutless wonder (carbed 2.4 NAP-Z motor, always taking a NAP) and the world's crappiest seats, but very reliable. Sold to a friend for $1500 and still on the road.

Lots of good adventures in that rig including driving from Flagstaff to Fairbanks and back...

Yeah, the motors are still taking naps... Still the good ole 2.4 in my 98 frontier. I just can't seem to find a good deal on a 4 runner closer to home. All seem to be out west or north.

Sorry if I missed this in the OP, but does this truck have a solid front axle?

Hey PR, thanks for your interest. No it has the stock IFS. It is basically stock with some upgraded Toyota parts, e.g. the late model throttle body and upper intake plenum from a 1994 22RE truck (EXCELLENT upgrade, highly recommended), beefier R151F transmission, plus some SR5 parts like the "sport" seats, maplights, clock, and center console.

I don't really "wheel" for sport- this rig was used to support mountain biking, wildland camping (not in developed campgrounds which we avoid like the plague) XC skiing, occasional river trips, exploring on old logging roads, etc.

Thats a shame. Its a nice looking truck but I gotta have a solid axle for my applications and since the back injury, I'm just not able to do any kind of work like that. If I can find someone to do a SAS I'll get back with you.

*kicks self in ass for selling '89 4Runner w/SAS and straight 6 Ford swap back in 99*

Thanks DT.

I visited Montreal a few years back, tagging along with my wife who was there for a conference. Lots of history there, and some GREAT restaurants, although the staff in some of the French oriented ones had a pretty low tolerance for us okies from the skokie who don't speak French...

And that underground shopping mall labyrinth was pretty trippy...

still trying to figure out how I can get the money for it. You sure you don't want an 83? solid axles... carb... little rust... I'll even throw in the stereo I was gonna put in it with the swap! It's got new upholstery! and only 50k on the rebuild!

Hey SLDX, I appreciate your interest.

But for some context, the reason I'm selling this rig is because I finally got over my denial that a 2-door could work with our new baby girl who arrived 5 months ago, a week before I turned 50.

So, frankly, and to be brutally honest, the last thing I need is an 83 truck. In a former life maybe, but not now...

I feel lucky to have dodged a bullet and picked up a 2000 4runner 4WD 5 spd 3RZ 2.7L replacement for the 88 runner before my wife picked out a mini-van for us, which was a topic of discussion.

Hope this clarifies that I'm not interested in trades, unless it some kind of risk free high yield investment in a college fund...
