turns over.. kinda

im sure this has been asked before but i couldnt find anything so here it goes. i just got a truck with a 22r that the guy says wont start, i got it home and tried to start it and when it turned over it didnt sound normal it was more of a smooth rotation, the engine was turning but it sounded like maybe there was no compression or something?

any ideas? im guessing its timing related

i dont think there is a pattern but it is recommended that you change the gasket even if its not leaking now it will after it is removed.

my friend bought a chevy with little compression one time and no kidding all the valves were adjusted so tight it wouldn't have enough compression to start. 15 minutes and it ran like a top.
