My co-worker says its unsafe to lift with blocks all the way round. I say why not. He said I don't know it just unsafe. Ok guys whats wrong with it. I just want a cheap lift as I go for the looks not for off road.

 

It warps the springs, increased axle wrap, and uses longer bolts thus weaking the setup. I dont recommend this either

 

If all the way around you are also referring to the front springs--bad idea. due to the spring wrap it could push the blocks out--plus I am pretty sure it is illegal with DOT.

I wouldn't use them off road. If you are just going to use them on the road then go for it.

 

Blocks in the back are generally frowned upon. Blocks in the front are rediculously dangerous and should never be installed.

Every time I see a lift on a street queen I see blocks in the rear. Brand new truck but blocks. What cheap b@st@rd can afford a $50k diesel but can't afford another $600 for springs? Springs are the way to go. I bought them for my chevy too. Blocks are for fags

 

I have them, have not had a problem yet...haven't done any rock crawling or anything but I have been offroad quite a bit....knock on wood

 

your co-worker is right. it is very dangerous to use blocks in the front due to the extra leverage it gives the axle in lateral movement (steering, cornering) and is illeagal (with good reason) in most states if not all. rear blocks can be ok if your springs to not have a problem with spring wrap, but all the older trucks have a severe spring wrap problem when stock. i am planning an AAL in the rear when i go with 3 or 4" springs up front, if i need another inch or two in lift i will use a block but only if my spring wrap is 100% gone from the AAL. i highly discourage any more than a 2" block to be safe. remember its your life cruising down the freeway at 80mph when that monster size block works loose. don't care about your own life? how about the family of 7 in the minivan you just hit?

i have blocks in the rear and HATE THEM! i have so much axle wrap, and the rear axle is so sloppy because of it. it was suppose to be a quick fix and i'm working to remove them. blocks in the front is plain stupid..... cue the scary steering pics.....

 

I don't think its about being cheap when a guy spends a lot on a pickup and has blocks. I've done a dozen or more revtec lifts on the new tundras. they have blocks in the back. I think its a personal thing. One has exhaust pipes sticking out of his bed thats gay, but he likes it. Some people actually cut up their fender just so they can put some ridiculously sized tires on their pickup. That's gay too. We all have are own style and interests.

 

Blocks at either end is bad, but the front is horrendous.

The reason you see that on the revtek stuff is that its cheap, and those trucks aren't going to see much in the way of offroad use.

I have watched blocks get spit out. It is very dangerous to anyone standing around the truck, and quite damaging to the truck. It is also very easy to do, even with properly tightened hardware.

Don't do it.

 

blocks (in the rear ) are just fine if you control the wrap . latter bars , or traction bars will do this , but you loose ground clearance . a traction or kicker shock will also control the wrap and is less "harch"

 

On a Toyota w/ stock steering up front, you won't be able to use blocks in front even if you wanted to. The steering j-arm and drag link end will hit the u-bolts if you raise them up and the steering will bind up. Plus it is generally not street legal to have blocks in front in most states:

Blocks are dumb. Period. If you can't afford to do it right, you probably shouldn't be chucking the cash at something "going for looks". At least do AALs if you're not going to go with new springs...not quite as bad as blocks.
