oil not circulating?

82 22r, this is the second time im noticing this when i do my oil changes. my oil filter is loose and theres no oil in it when i take it off. this has never been the case with any of my other vehicles ive owned thoughout my life. every other vehicle ive pulled the oil filter off of i get a bit of oil spilling out of it and/or theres a bit of oil inside the filter. but nothing in mine. have any of you guys experienced this? if not how worried should i be? and what could this be from? also i do my oil changes pretty frequently but my oil always comes out looking pitch black. i know its supposed to be darker but after 2500 miles? it just doesnt seem right.
thanks for the help

I'm assuming when you let it warm up it goes down to idle speed, if not there may be many other problems, but most likely you just have a dirty engine.
No oil at all? like not even soaked into the filter, if that is the case its not circulating at all, and I have never heard of that happening, if the truck runs it should always be circulating.

new oil pump or maybe you are just not puting enough oil in.

Had this same prob asked everyone i know... One old timer told me there is a one way checkvalve behind your filter.. He told me to take filter off and change it. Well needless to say my motor went before i got to that so i dunno if he was right :o)

Isn't that check valve the pressure relief?

I think you need one of these...

I had a lack of oiling problem with my 3.4 that was do to air or the lack of ability to puch the oil through the lines to the heads. The cuase was due to the bigger tubes I used with the filter relocation kit. I got rid of it all together.

I would pull out the oil pressure sending unit and crank the motor with the spark plugs out and see if oil shoots out the sending unit hole. That will tell you if its the oil pump for sure.

yes it does drop to idle speed after its warm, and there is oil soaked in the filter, it just seems weird that there would be no oil in the filter when i pull it off of the motor. but hey if thats normal, im not complaining. i just didnt know if i should be concerned.

is it a fram filter? When I ran a fram and changed it there was no oil in it. Ran a Toyota filter and oil came out like usual.

fram filters are garbage. get an oem or a quality filter like a wix (which is what i use), or donaldson, or even an amsoil filter (great filter but not usually stocked at your local parts store)

you can get all three on my site. Only takes a coupla days to get it. I just put one on my 97 the p.o. had fram, some il did run out not much tho.
I wont have to worry about it for about 15k miles then im gonna get the oil tested.Go to my site there is a application guide that has some good info.
when you pull up my site go to shop online then click Amsoil home and go to the botom of the page.

How many miles on the engine? The oil will be black if its doing its job.
