Got a question for anyone that can help. My 81 22r pickup wont stay running, just had the carburetor rebuilt as a result of this yet the problem still exists. The truck runs fine in cold weather, but as soon as the outside temperature reaches 65 or warmer it wont idle on its own. I have to hold the gas pedal to keep it running. Im not very familiar with carburetors or their components, so any help would be very helpful. Where do I start?

 

sounds like a vaccum leak .. check your vac hoses .
or maybe , take it to the people whom rebuilt your carb .. might be a gasket issue .

 

Isn't there an idle solenoid of some sort that goes bad and causes this problem? I'm EFI so I don't have or know the specifics.

 

All my vaccum lines are correct according to the diagram I printed out, would the choke have anything to do with this problem?

 

did you ever reset your idle??

 

Pull out a voltmeter and check if your choke is getting any power? I had that problem before so i wired my choke to the fuel-cut wire. Maybe setup your choke again, not very hard just loosen 3 screws and rotate.

 

Believe my buddy that rebuilt the carb did, it ran fine for a day or so before it developed the problem. I know he adjusted the idle, as far as the choke dont know.

 

how would I identify the fuel cut wire to try that?

 

There should be 2 wires coming off your carb, one for choke and other is fuel-cut. The wire that goes more to the top of the carb is the choke. Just unplug the green connector and test out the terminals. Should only be getting power when the ignition is ON.

 

does it still not idle when its warm? Mine didn't idle at all when I bought it, Engine fuse was blown. Something to look at before you go tearing into it.
