1990 and below toyota pickup to drive 2,000 miles? like if your engine and everything is running fine.
I ask this because im a survivalist and I've been thinking that if I had to leave my state in the event of some disaster and drive 2,000 miles away can i trust my toyota pickup if everythings running fine.

Also heres another question, what would you bring with you on this trip as far as tools, parts for your truck etc...

 

If eveything is running fine, i wouldn't see why not, but at least plan ahead for unexpected troubles.

Things i would bring.

The most comonly used size tools. (10, 12, 14 mm etc...)
Extra water (radiator, windshield fluid, drinking water)
As many extra parts as you could
Fire extinguisher
some kind of raido (CB etc..)
Extra cash! (Food, gas, clothing, etc...)
spare tire
What ever else you could think of or possibly use!

22re is one of the most reliable engines out there.

I've done several multi thousand mile trips, including wheeling.

 

I regularly commute 650+ miles each way to and from school with no issues...knock on wood

i have a toolbox with common tools, fluids, spare plugs, etc. keep spare washer fluid/water in the back of the bed

 

with a toyota pickup of course, they are the most reliable engines out there, my truck has 204,000 miles and runs like it did when it was first rolled out of the factory floor, Trust a Ford, Chevy or Dodge, with 204,000 miles under its belt to go a straight 2,000 miles with its still original engine, hell no, i'll walk thankyou.
I'd probably bring extra gas, medical supplies, food, water, beer, cigarettes, etc. but if its running good though, there should be no mechanical trouble at all, even if i suddenly ran out of oil, i would expect it to get me very far if not all the way before it seizes. so hell yea I would trust a pre 90's toyota truck to get me 2000 miles without stopping.

i drove my 91 8 hours up to here pushing 300k without any problems. 2000 miles is a different story, but i would feel confident in the drive. just bring enough tools and supplies with you so that you have a wide variety if something should go wrong. I keep my junkyard tool bag in my toolbox along with oil, water, and sealants as well as some other things such as vaccuum lines, wires, spare parts, etc. just in case.

 

I wouldn't hesitate to jump in mine and drive to hell and back. All I need to do is stop ever 3000 miles and change the oil.

 

As long as the belts, hoses, and fluids are good, I'd trust it to go a lot further than that. Kinda what MonsterMaxx said X2.

Yes, Toyotas need OIL changes often and regularily and they will run forever. If you don't change your oil when needed it severely lowers engine life. If mine was running now I'd trust it for sure haha, but the P.O. didn't believe in coolant flushes and things just kind of snowballed from there.

I'd bring plenty of alcohol, tobacco, firearms/ammo, spare gas/fluids, a hefty tool box including the big hub socket for the front.

 

As a survival nut I'd have to say yes. I've run the gauntlet of survival vehicles and the closest thing I found to equal this 86 SR5 I have now was a 77 IH scout in factory diesel. I'd stick with a Yota over anything else at this point.

I plan to make mine a survival rig in the next couple of months and after reading several weather publications over the past 100 years for wind shift and plotting the fallout from primary nuke strikes in the US (part of my job) I know where I have to be and how long I have to get there.

As far as things to take along........ my list is extensive albeit light in wieght. My primary consideration is getting myself and my puppy in the rig and leaving. Most of what I need is contained in two survival bags, one 6 pocket ARMY ruksack and a rather heavy combat weapons case.


Trust the Toyota like you trust Jesus, all things will be made clear and attainable.

But tell me this fellow prepper: Why would you drive 2,000 miles? Do you not have a good place already picked out within 250-500 miles? Or are you wonder if you had to use your vehicle period, would it make it?

 

yep, as long as there is nothing bad and everything works, i'd not even worry about it.

I'd trust mine to 2,000. Trust it to 20,000 just as easy. 200,000 would be a stretch, but if I didn't get bored driving that long I'd trust it.

 

I drove mine 1000 miles to colorado...wheeled for a week in the mountains and then drove home
