Ive been reading around but I cant decide which will be better for me. Im planning on lifting my 4runner soon, i ordered OME rear shocks today becuase i need shocks badly. Im going to order the rest of the lift in about a month. I cant decide which rear coil i should go with. Im going with 881 for the fronts.

Now for the rear, im going to be towing a single waverunner and im also going to be loaded down with my entire dorm room in the back this summer. Its a 500 mile drive each time and im doing 2 round trips. I usually keep my tools in the back along with some other random stuff. I dont know if I should go with the heavier springs or not. What would you do?

go with the 890s if you're going to be carrying some weight and towing. I know the tongue weight for wave runners is nothing, but every nit helps. Nice firm ride but not too harsh.

 

I have 890's out back. I don't tow anything but I have had my 4Runner loaded down with a few hundred pounds a couple of times since I lifted mine and the 890's handle the load really well. They also don't seem to ride too stiff.

 

I am going to be running 891's next week. I move around alot and basically carry all my personal crap, and i am planning on adding a rear offroad bumper. I also have a roofrack i use sometimes.

 

so sense its basically a one time deal with moving around, would i just be better off with the 890s?

 

I have 890s now, they are great. They do droop whith a 350#+ tongue weight trailer and a few hundred pounds in the back. Without weight they ride great. Offroad I can fully stuff my tires. I want/need to try some 891s because I do tow alot and I have some long trips planed while towing. I hope I don't compermise my offroadability with the 891s.

With the load you are talking about I think the 890s are probably your best bet.

 

I have had 891's on my 2000 Runner for a year and a half. IMO they do not ride harsh at all and they provide more lift/weight carrying capabilities. They flex awesome as well. You would not be disappointed with the 891's.

Would a good way to compare the ride be a pickup truck vs lets say a stock 4runner?

 

the 891's do not give more lift. they give about the same as the 890. the 891s are a little shorter than the 890s but the load weight is about 300lbs more than the 890s so in the end they will give about the same amount of lift if that is any factor...

 

How do the 906's compare to the 890 and 891? are they kind of in the middle? is there a OME spring that is sorta in the middle?

I've been following that that thread and how i missed the post with the heights i have no clue. I so if i understand it correctly, the 890 have more load capacity then stock along with lift and then the 891 have a whole lot more load capacity meaning i need to run around with alot of weight in the back or its gonna be a rough ride?

 

Hmm, when I did the research before buying my 891's, I was under the impression they gave more lift. Apparently so did Gerdo from the above mentioned thread since he says the 890's provide 2.75" of lift and the 891's provide 3". Regardless, it is nice having the extra weight carrying capabilities.

 

Negative.

The 891's feel very good. About 1000 times better than the saggy ass stock springs. The 891's make the 4Runner "truck" feel like a "truck" should feel.

People seem to be scared to run the 891's in fear their rig will feel like a buckboard. I run the 891's with the OME "firm" shocks in the rear. About 90% of the time I don't have any weight in the rear and it still feels very nice. If it means anything, my fiance drives the Runner most of the time and does not complain about the ride at all.

So, take it for what it's worth, but I would not hesitate to run the 891's.

well maybe ill just stick with the original plan of getting 891s. i like the truck feel anyway. im getting shocks in a few days my stock ones are completely shot.

 

I too run the 891's out back; currently with the stock shocks and the ride is not bad at all in my opinion. I do not have any extra weight (bumper/lots of gear/etc.).
Gonna be installing the N86 shocks here in the next few days. I'll let you know how that rides.
