Take a piece of rubber sheet or something like an old rubber glove and use it as a grip base for flat rope to tighten around.

Tie a loop in one end of the rope. Pass the rope through the loop so it self tightens. Make several wraps around the shock.

Make a second loop on the other end that you can put a breaker bar into for leverage. Then use an air ratchet to loosen the top nut.

Or you can just use a pipe wrench and mangle the thing as you are taking it out. lol

Can I get 33s on with the OME 2" set-up? Will there be any rubbing when off road? Will I need a diff drop?
Thanks.

twitchee2 I picked 881 for my front springs because I am running the ARB bumper. I believe the rating is something like +130 lbs over stock.

I have read that 880s or 881s are pretty similar.....if you are stock I think 880s for you are likely best-unless you will be adding some weight up front.

just my .02

my lift should be here in a week or so. 881s front and 891s rear

Just to let you know from someone who learned the hard way; the lower spring holder for the front OME front shocks is mounted so the spring sits inside the cupped part.

I swapped out my 890s for a new set of 891s. I also just added a Panhard Bar drop bracket (Toytec). I drove with my 890s for a couple of years and switching to the 891s isn't a big difference in ride. If someone snuck in one night and switched the springs I probably wouldn't have noticed.

I did notice a big difference having the PHB drop. The rear would swim a little when going over bumps. With the PHB drop it calms things down. It makes the PHB more level and so the up/down arch is now mote vertical. Before, the arch was more in/out. Well worth the $50.

I just got back from a trip. 3500 miles towing and the springs, 891, are great.

As Glen did mention. The 891s are shorter, out of the vehicle, but I did get about 1/2" more height than the 890s. There may/should be some settling tho.

I really need to get a new panhard bar, or a drop bracket. On the highway when i hit bumps it wanders a little in the rear.

I didn't think that I NEEDED a PHB drop. My axle wasn't pulled too far off center but the arc of the PHB after the lift would move the axle left and right. Now the PHB moves more straight up and down.

I used the Toytec Panhard Bar Drop . You will want to cut a spacer for inside where the PHB used to be so you don't crush the bracket. You can use almost anything, square tube, round tube, a stack of washers. You will also want to weld the drop on so it doesn't move. I had to grind a little to get the bracket on.

nice. Well i had to do something about my rear sag plus ive been doing lots of moving (out of dorms, moving out of my parents, then back to arptmt at school) so i had to do something about it. I got some air lift 1000's and so far its been perfect for what i need. I cant afford to lift the front yet so i just opted for the air bags. So far they are great and i get as much as 1.5in higher then the front when empty then it holds it fairly well with weight. They came with 2.5 spacers so it will still work when i get my lift so i think im just gonna get the 890s over the 891s. I think the air bags will make up for the carrying capacity of the 891's. What do you think?

I had the air lift bags on mine for a while. They ride nice, eliminate the sag and handle a load well.

The one thing I didn't like was when I was offroading I had the supply line pull out of the bag. When the axle is articulating the bag will stay centered in the coil and lift off the spring perch. I had quite a bit of slack in the air line but when the axle would drop the line would get caught on the hole in the spring perch and pull out. If I made more slack then under normal driving there would be alot of line hanging down.

I decided to swap them out for my lift (TRDs & 890s). Since going to the 891s and with the heavy loads/towing that I do I know that I'll be happier with the 891s.

thats good info. I took that into consideration when i installed them and left enough slack to allow them to drop all the way down. I will see how they handle when i pack the truck up again and then throw a trailer on top of it all. One think i thought was very cool was the fact that they included 2.5in spacers so i can still use them when i get my lift.

Most of the time I drive around with nothing in it. I do tow and sometimes have 300# tongue weight. I also have had about 800# inside.

I still like the 891s on the road and they did give me about 1/2" more lift. They also handle my trailer better.

After a couple of wheeling trips on the 891s, there are a couple of things that I prefer with the 890s. The 891s do fully compress when flexed but there is a "springy" feeling (yah I know they are springs) that I didn't have with the 890s. The 891s compress then bounce back compaired to the 890s would compress and not spring back. On my last trip I was on an off camber trail and there was tree root on the high side. When I drove over it, with the rear wheel, it felt like it was going to catapult me onto my roof.

I think I'm going back to my 890s with a 10mm trim packer.
