Please Help with electrical 10A engine fuse blowing in kick panel '90 3vze Runner

Hello, everyone, thank you for helping me with this electrical issue. I've been trying to figure out why I'm blowing my 10A engine fuse in my kick panel. I've checked my aftermarket stereo head unit and found that the previous owners cut the original wire harness and spliced it 2 times before I could figure out what they did. There are 4 wires left unconnected and don't know where they connect to. I insulated all the wires at the connections, I put in a 25A and a 30A and still blowing fuses. I checked the wires to and from the starter, alternator, battery and all fuses. Everything was good. I diagnosed and the check engine light blinked "normal". Also, my right headlight low beams don't work but the high beams do. I replaced the headlight 2 times already. My dash/gauge lights don't work but signal, hazard, check engine light works. The rear running lights don't work on both sides but my brake lights and reverse lights work. I used an OHMs meter to check the output on that 10A fuse slot and read as .6 OMS. So I no longer know where to look. Is something not grounded correctly? Again, Thank you For your help.

I looked on my 93 EWD and that fuse supplies power to 2 things, the red wire on the alternator plug and the cruise control ECU. Not sure what else to tell you, except don't put a bigger fuse in there. Hope that helps

Maybe the other electrical problems are because of the alternator not getting its power supply.

Was that ohm reading across the fuse slots?

I won't put any other fuses in there till it's pretty much done. just wanted to see how much power was going in there. the reading of .6 was across all other slots. I did notice that the engine is taking a bit longer to ignite and turn over.

Well I'm just guessing but I'd say if its blowing 25-& 30 amp fuses one of those 2 wires might be shorting out somewhere. I'd look for damaged wire insulation exposing a bare "+" wire to a ground source, something like that. Smell any smoke?

Your description is perfect for us to try and help you. Others reading; take notes!

I'm looking at the wiring schematic for the fuse block. If I'm reading it right (and I'm tired, but usually good with this stuff), power is supplied from the ignition switch down through the Black/Yellow wire (A2) to the Engine fuse (10A). It goes through the fuse, then it splits internally with one wire going to the alternator for the field (red, B6) and the other going to the Cruise Control system (Blue/Red, C13).

I would unplug your alternator's harness and the cruise control actuator. Replace the fuse and key-on the truck. If the fuse still blows, you have a dead short to ground on one of your two circuit. This means a harness problem. If it does not, then one of your two accessories is shorted out. The alternator is far more likely. Key off, plug the Alt back in and key-on again. Should the fuse then pop you know you have an internal short in the alternator. If it does NOT, then it's highly suspect that your cruise control is the problem.

Thank you Noltz and Goat. You all are an awsome help. I picked up a Chilton repair manual so that should help out a lot too. I'll have to start diggging again tomorrow cause it's to dark now. I'll post again after I get done with it.

Ok, now I'm a little more confused...I unplugged the alternator harness, keyed on ign. and fuse didn't blow, everything works except the low beams on right headlight and dash lights. plugged harness back in and keyed on again, and everything was still ok. no fuse blew, everything on except headlight and dash light...i think. couldn't tell was still bright outside. So, I'm guessing the alt. harness was loose. Couldn't find the cruise control even in the chiltons manual. if something goes wrong again, I'll look harder for the CC. And I got a chance to clean my air filter...yyyeessss. Thanks again for everyone's help. I'll PM you guys or post again under this thread if there's a problem.
