Clear corner LEDs: White vs. Amber

Well, I've been running white LEDs in my clear corners ever since I got them last year. I was running those cheapo blue H4 bulbs off of ebay, so they matched pretty well. Unfortunately, when I did my HID projector retrofit I noticed that my 4300k bulbs no longer matched the white LEDs. I decided to just leave them for a while. In the last month or so I was pulled over twice (same cop) for having "blue" lights on my car, and I guess that compared to the headlights my white LEDs did indeed have a blueness to them. So I decided to either find a matching pair of LEDs for my headlights or to go w/ amber LEDs.

I ordered both. After doing a lot of research I found some LEDs that were advertised as being a "pure white" at 4500k. Perfect I thought. Lo and behold, I got them, plugged them in and Hey! They were exactly the same color as my old ones! Anyway, I put in the amber ones, fully expecting to dislike them, but I really dig how they look. Much better than the mismatching "white" lights I had. Anyway, check them out and let me know what you think!

The white LED's look purple-ish blue.
I like the amber ones a lot more...hundred times better. Where'd you buy them?

My vote's for amber.

I've had my clear corners installed for over a year now and I've tried these following bulbs (in order):

Halogen PIAA Super Whites
LED White bulbs (like yours)
LED Amber bulbs w/ 5 LEDs
LED Amber bulbs w/ 6 LEDs
Standard Halogen Amber Bulbs

The PIAAs were nice, but over time, the heat from the bulb melted the blue coating off ...thus causing the bulb to produce a yellowish light. Like you, I also found that the White LED bulbs were way too blue. I then tried the 5 LED & 6 LED amber bulbs, but IMO, neither were bright enough. So now I'm running standard halogen amber bulbs in my clear corners and I could not be happier .

I thought the amber colored bulbs might be very noticable mounted in the clear corners during the day, but they are not at all. I'm pleased.

I bought them from superbrightleds.com

They are the 5-LED amber ones where 4 shoot out the sides.

Looks like I'm not the only one going through multiple sets of lights I really like these amber LEDs, and they are plenty bright for my taste. I thought about doing the super white bulbs, but I'm not a fan of the blue when they are off. But even if those amber bulbs you had now were visible, you could go with those chromed bulbs... That's what I have in my bumper lights.

I'd go with white, IMO it looks much cleaner and I've had them before & they don't look purpleish blue either. That's just the way they look in the picture, here's a shot of my white LED's.

IMO, the white/blue are tacky. I'd stick with amber. Looks much much cleaner.

If I could get an LED that matched my 4300K HIDs then I'd stick with white, but I haven't found any. If I ever end up playing around with 6000K bulbs I'll put them back in. But I actually dig the amber ones. I like how LED color is so "clean"

Hey man! Kind of off-topic, but my parents were looking at buying a newer 3rd gen 4Runner a few weeks ago, and I remembered that you were selling yours, but when I came on here to check you'd already sold it!!! Sad day... I'm glad to see that you're still around.

I can see why the cops might want to pull you over with that colour difference. IMO the ambers are a bit too orange-y... to dark against the pure chrome/white of the truck, did you consider trying yellow LEDs to get that french spec look? [these would also be better in foul weather lol]
just my 0.02 to toss into the debate...

Yeah, sold her in 2 days of posting. Sorry to see her go, but the Tacoma fills in the void nicely. We need to hit up some trails now that it's getting a bit warmer.
