fuel pressure regulator question
how can you tell if it is bad and what are the symptoms.....my 22re is not wanting to idle right and its slugish...i just pulled the throttle body off and cleaned it but i did it with the tps still on (didnt know i wasnt supposed to do that)....my buddy has the same truck and he said that any water, parts cleaner, or degreaser that gets in that tps could be bad for it....ive got a spare fuel pressure reg. here but if its not my problem then i dont need to do it.....any help would be appriciated...thanks

Usually, if the diaphram in the reg canister goes bad, it will allow fuel to escape into the vacuum sensing hose. So, you can check whether or not there's fuel in it.

The Factory Service Manual has a test procedure. You can put in the fuel pump test jumper and check that the pressure builds in the return line if you pinch it off. Can also listen for a sound change when you apply vacuum to the FPR vacuum port. A gauge can also be installed to check the pressure. Make sure the vacuum line to the FPR from the intake is good:

As I recall, I and another member/fellow here came to the conclusion that the only way you could contaminate and ruin the TPS is if you got any solvent or water on/in the terminals and not from the throttle plate side. That side is very well sealed. So, you may be okay.
Atleast determine if the FPR is functioning before you move on.
