smittybuilt bumper

I recently purchased a new smittybuilt rear hitch bumper through craigslist only to find out it doesn't fit my '84 4runner. The mounts are about an inch (total) to far apart to fit inside the frame and one of the frame to body brackets is in the way of mounting it on the outside of the frame.

Any idea what year truck this would be for? I need to know so I can sell it..

have you searched the smittybuilt website with a part number? Did you even get a part number? but it looks like it's for a pick-up not 4Runner.

i couldn't find a part number on the box and didn't see one on the bumper

everywhere i've seen the bumpers working on both pickups and 4runners, but that could be.

I was wondering if maybe it goes with a gen 2 4runner

That one's definitely for a pickup. I don't understand why it doesn't fit though since the frames are the same on both. Maybe you could bend the brackets in slightly?

Here's the one for the 4Runner (I chopped the lower ends though):

Yeah, I should have said that. I hate my Smitty with a passion. It hangs on everything. But, it's a good option if you don't wheel much.. It took about a 40 miles per hour hit from a Camry one time..
