Is this the standard going rate at the dealer for the scheduled 60K?? Anyone know what exactly is covered and if I can save some cash doing anything on my own? Thanks.

 

Oil & filter , air filter possiblily check the rest of the truck to make sure all fluids are good , check breaks for wear , maybe rotate tires check for codes and clear if any presant

Save yourself a bunch of money and do it yourself can't cost more then 100 bucks for synthic oil and filters needed and a hour or two of a day by yourself.

 

A Toyota 60k is usually --
-change oil ($10 for filter)
-replace air filter ($30)
-replace wiper inserts ($30)
-replace coolant ($45 for 3 gallons)
-replace transmission fluid ($40 for 4 quarts)
-replace spark plugs ($75 for 6 plugs)
-replace pcv valve (some places might do that at 90k) ($15)

That's probably 3 hours of labor plus parts. Figuring labor is $100/hr that's $300 in labor and $200 in parts. Sounds about right to me.

I think you can do most of it all on your own (use us for help!). Maybe I would let them do the coolant and tranny (or another shop) because that stuff is messy and where are you gonna recycle it... Oil, oil filter, air filter, and spark plugs can all be done very easily.

 

Autozone! Get in the zone!

(You can recycle all fluids there)

 

I would say $525 for all the things they do, and the service that comes with is well worth it. My time is worth much more than $100/hour, and to amass all the tools, parts, do the work, clean up, etc etc would take longer than that. Plus, you are getting FACTORY parts and a warranty for all of it, not that worthless Schucks or Autozone crap that will have to be changed out sooner.

too much imo if you can do it yourself. there are no real expensive parts in that process. now i can understand waterpump, belts etc etc maybe but something as simple as that, no.. 100$ an hour for labor?? good god! i am glad i live in the south. we get it for 77$ to at the up most 85-90$ an hour.

 

My shop charges $120/hr.

 

My shop just went up to $95 lbr/hr. We supposedly are "still the cheapest around compared to other dealers."
I would say do it all yourself if you have the tools and skills.

You will get much better results if you just ask that dealer what they do in THEIR 60k service. Usually it is BASED on Toyota schedules but many dealership add or subtract items and many have a "menu" showing the items.
At 60k it is most likely complete fluid replacement (oil/filter, trans/transfer, diffs and antifreeze), airfilter, sparkplugs, tire rotation, brake clean/adjust, + many "inspections".
(they may even be including a Timing belt on a v-6 or valve adjust on a 4cyl you don't know till you ask)
A good dealer will let you pick the specific items to be done "ala carte" and save some cash as well.

Once you know what they are doing YOU can decide what you are capable of doing at home.

just did my 90k at 111... cost me $550...+nys inspection and to top it all off my o2 sensor went bad anothe $300. but if you go to a dealer thats what you get.
I knew that before i gave them my keys... peace of mind and an empty wallet
make for a not so great weekend.

 

do it yourself...


buy toyota OEM supplies and learn how....

Your wallet will thank you and you will have learned you something new
