Dude get that belt changed. It's supposed to be changed at 60K. It could be that the timing has changed a few degrees causing it to miss.. well it would take a few more than a few degrees but that could be your prob. In any case get it changed when you can if that sucker snaps.. bad things happen!

That is what would normally happen. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 3.0 is a non-interference motor. So if it does break, your truck should just die and leave you stranded. Get that belt changed!

As for missing, do a tune-up on it: plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and fuel filter. If that doesn't fix it, check your timing. If that still doesn't fix the problem, then you may have a valve or two out of adjustment.

Good Luck!

Car sort of fixed....

Ok....i just got my car back from putting in a new tranny.....they also changed out the sparkplugs and have new plugwires on order......i while back...like maybe a year ago....i started to have this REALLY bad roar and vibration....i thought it was the tranny but i wasnt sure....i had both my u-joints replaced and driveshaft balanced....but it didnt fix the roar....so i still thought it was the tranny.....then my tranny case got a crack in it and had to have it replaced....when that happened i was almost sure it was the tranny making the roaring noise and vibration.....well it comes out it wasnt the trannny.....its the rearend.....is there anyway i can replace the gears in it myself fairly easily or would it be better/cheaper to just find a used rearend to change it out with???...

"Missing" is just short for "misfiring". It's when there is no combustion in one or more of the cylinders. You can tell when a vehicle misses because you can feel or see the motor shake and see the tach drop a little. The shake will be harder than normal motor shake. Just because you feel the motor shake doesn't mean you have a miss. You can also tell if you have a miss by listening to the exhaust. It will sound like a "poof" if you can understand that (and the jackass tech that did my HG said it was normal).

I hope that clears things up some.

What kind of tires are you running? So long as your changing out the gears, maybe you could gear down.

Hmmmm....Good question.

I'll try a different word. It sounds like a "puff" of air in the exhaust. It's easy to pick out because it doesn't sound like the normal exhaust tone.

It's kinda hard to explain. I guess you would have to hear it.

I think if you regear the rear, you would have to regear the front. If you didn't your front and rear wheels would be turning at different speeds.

Different speeds = break something

Unless he keeps it in 2wd Haha. Yeah, if the problem is not in the gears, and you're not running taller tires, then I wouldn't do the re-gear.

Poof: (adj.) used as a disparaging term towards an openly homosexual male.

So Ag4Runner06, what exactly does a "poof" sound like, since I obviously dont "understand that?"
