I've searched and searched for this and have found no definitive answer. I've done the 12v outlet mod in the tech section (in my own way at least). But I really need to have the stock 12v outlet a constant source. I've found my self on several occasions on the scene of a car wreck or what not and I really emergency lights to stay on with out my keys in the car. But my lighting is plugged in to the 12v outlet or powered by a relay that is on a switch powered by the 12v outlet circuit. Can anyone help me out?

 

Why not just pull the outlet out and cut the hotwire then run it directly to B+

 

I don't think it would be too hard to direct connect to the battery, and run a simple fuse, and a toggle switch. But if that's not what you are talking about, then I don't know. Electrical isn't really my thing.

 

Yea stormin has a good point to. If you wanted to you could make it an option to toggle that outlet between constant and keyed. Just get a toggle switch and put it on the power wire to that outlet. on that switch have one leg connected to the regular wire that comes from the keyed relay controlled side, then run a wire from another leg all the way back to the battery, and put a 10-15amp fuse somewhere in series with it. then connect the other side of the toggle switch to the cord that runs into the outlet.

Boom, presto chango.

I get where your going, sounds like what I should do. What about the whole circuit including the fuse block to.

 

Not sure exactly what your asking on that last post. Do you mean what happens on the other side of that fuse block to make it keyed or...?

 

I need the fuse for the 12v outlet to have power constant to because I have a fuse tap for a switch for other misc emergency lighting. I might just walk away from this tonight because I'm tired

 

That's what you'll get if you wire it with the toggle switch. I had some fog lights like that. It didn't matter if the car was on or off, keys, no keys, it was all the same.

 

yeah i included a seperate fuse for just that outlet in the diagram on the leg that runs directly to the battery, there is already a fuse on the keyed leg so thats not an issue. If you wanted to wire all of your emergency things in this way you could always just use an auxilary fuse block, and then use a switch to controll weather that entire block receives constant or keyed voltage. To do that though you would need to use a switch and a relay because you would need more power than the original power outlet wire could handle.

And be grateful that at least your 12V outlet works at all...unlike mine. I've gone over that thing with a voltage tester soo many times, and I haven't found the problem yet. I'm guessing it's the ghost of Toyota's past.

 

why not just replace the whole thing? its a positive, and a ground - like 10 bucks at any autoparts place for a new outlet with pigtail
