Yet Another Fuel Pump Question

ok...i've been reading up on everyone elses fuel pump problems, so now i've got one of my own

its an 89 4Runner, 3.0L Auto

been driving the truck all week with no problems, went to start it saturday morning and nothing, it turns over and what not, but will not start

do some checks which i've found in other threads, not from my absolutely useless Haynes manual, jumpered out the fuel pump relay and also jumpered out +B and FP, to no avail

two Questions, where is the fusible link located for this ? i cannot find it

second question, is it possible to get at the fuel pump connector by the gas tank without dropping it down ?

That sounds like a bad circuit opening relay. not sure on a V6 but i know that mine was located on the passengers side under the kick panel above the ECM. Its just the fuel pump relay but of course Toyota had to make it difficult to Tshoot by changing the name lol.

Dubweiser....
Do you mean to say even an O'Reilly near you doesn't have them nor can get them? That's odd to me because I got one here pretty cheap...was even in stock. AND has a lifetime warranty!

Anyway, I'm trying to make sense of your post. Are you saying you didn't test the relay correctly? Did you test the terminals at the relay? Are you getting voltage to the 15amp EFI fuse? Help me out here because if you jumped the FP and B+ terminals the fuel pump should run.....unless it's bad.

what is the fp and b+ terminals and were are they located.im thinking of buying a parts rig that i can only get to start by dumping fuel into the air intake.and then it only runs until it runs out.ive checked the fuses and relays under the hood and they looked good.

Ooops...scratch that post. Start over.

What parts vehicle are you looking at? Is it a 2nd gen 3.0?

Okay....s'what I figured. So, here's the link.

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...shtml#FuelPump

The 3.0 and early 22re's have different diagnostic systems....as I was saying before I scratched my original reply. So, you won't have the FP/B+ terminals nor the same data link box.

And, you're welcome...

BTW, thought I'd suggest getting familiar with 4crawler's site....if you aren't already. Lots of neat stuff for the 1st gen's.

What do you mean by jumpered out?
If you mean "jumpered in" - meaning you you jumpered the wires into what should be an "on" position - I'd say that you've either got a bad relay or a one of the signals that trigger the relay +12 or the ground at the AFM isn't getting there...

Deal with one electrical issue at a time. :-)
