rear window wont go up HELP!
My 95 4Runner rear window won't go up all the time. It goes down by itself even with window lock on and the car off. But i can't get it up with the key or the button in the console. What could it be any help would be great it raining and i won't be able to take it out if the window rolls down by itself and can't roll up!

I checked the rear wiper and it was fine. So i took the panel off of the tailgate and got to the motor and it was extremely hot....do you think wires could have shorted out and are causing the motor to go crazy? I know i need a new tailgate eventually because of the rust in this one, maybe this is a sign?

I had been messing with it for about 5 minutes just trying to get it up. The motor hadn't moved then I finally got it to go up and came inside. Went back out 10 minutes later and it was down again so I opened the tailgate and opened the panel then felt the motor. It hadn't had to much movement but I don't know how much movement it had by itself while I was inside. Hopefully I can get a good deal my friend runs a body shop and can check for parts and gets updated lists of parts everyday. Maybe I'll fix it, if not maybe I'll get a good deal on one. This would happen the day we get the most rain we've had in months too.

unplug the motor and leave the connector where you can get at it easy. To roll it up, take any 12 volt battery(i prefer a small car battery), connect 2 wires to the posts and touch the other ends of the wires to the connector on the motor side and see if the motor engages. If it does and tries to pull the window down further, reverse the wires that you are touch to the terminals on the motor connector. It might involve crawling over a few seats to get to it, but it'll let you roll it up and down for the time being. While you're going back there, take a voltmeter and check for power at the wires on the harness end when there shouldn't be any. I'd bet there's a relay stuck somewhere.

yeah, it shouldn't be going up or down by itself, you must have a short or something some where,
do what stupid mud gremlins said to get it up and check for power when it shouldn't be there, as this might not be a problem that is in the tailgate, so it would suck if you put anotherone on there and burnt up the motor

i have a 94 4runner and my rear window was doing the same thing so i took the panel off and the brackets that held the window to the arms on the motor were completely rusted and sitting on the bottom of the tail gate and i called up the dealer and got them for cheap and kinda hard putting back on but after that the window worked so maby you can try looking for those
