Angry engine light is on

I changed my oil two weeks ago along with my airfilter; at that time i was 2K miles over the recommended oil-change milage.

two weeks after the oil change, now that my next oil change milage is approaching:
(1) my engine light has turned on continuously, at low and high rpms i have a rough or sputtery acceleration,
(2) the sputtering and roughness occur only if i am accelrating slowly, it doesn't occur for example when i flore it.
(3) when the is idle it doesn't sputter; once put into drive it immediatly supperts and if no gas is given then it stalls.
(4) All the fluids have been recenlty changed, the air intake system are good, no prior problems with the car at all,
(5) the car is at 140K miles.
please help?

The check engine lights almost always indicate an emissions problem. You may have a plugged converter or a baffle in your muffler might be loose, or some other things, but almost certainly emissions related.

I shop should be able to runa diagnostic only for fairly cheap, then you could decide how to best fix it. You may be able to get the code yourself, the Chilton and Hayes manuals explain how to retrieve the codes from the computer.

Autozone will pull the codes for you and for FREE. Takes 30 seconds.

Call them up first.
Apparently, some shops won't check them. At least not here in San Diego.
