Major Engine Oil in 85 4runner

We are at a loss, purchased a Chilton's manual good written instructions but pictures and diagrams are seriously lacking. Just bought, has 168k+ miles to use in the woods, hunting and 16 yr old son's first car. Started seeing oil leaks and splatter all underneath and in driver-side wheel well, got that problem solved, still going through about a qt of oil every 400 miles. Problem is we cannot determine where the leak is coming from but it leaks like a sieve, even while idling. Last night we lost the fan belt because of all the oil. We need detailed picture and parts listings. Anyone have good online supplier source?

Try 1) Haynes Manual, 2) There is a guy who sells Toyota dealer parts books (xeroxes, but useful) on ebay (e.g.http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29392-...em=8007876609).

Here are links to a couple online FSM's

this for a 93 but by and large the 4cyl stuff is the same. I've used it alot on my '86

This is for an '85. It takes a while to load and it's not indexed like the '93, but there it is if you need something specific to the '85

Good luck.

See if you can clean off the engine really well (engine degreaser or steam clean), then start it briefly and watch for the first sign of a leak. Or you can try some of the fluorescent oil dye and try that, will show up more clearly. If it is at the front of the engine, might be a crank seal leak (down low) or an unsealed timing cover bolt (in the middle) or the head/timing cover gasket leaking (at the top).
