water pump noisy?

I am kicking myself for not changing the water pump when I did the fan clutch, but I know I had it changed when I first owned the truck, and the owner before I bought it back thought he had it changed as well.
When my truck had overheating issues, I went about changing everything, thermostat, hoses, radiator and finally the fan clutch. The fan clutch was the culprit, but now, 2 months later, I think my water pump is going.
When a water pump goes, does it make a noise like a loose bearing? Will water/coolant seep out? Those are my symptoms and I am trying to diagnose before I go get the parts. If anyone has had the same thing happen to them, please chime in and let me know.
This is on my 84 22r.
thanks in advance

The whining noises aren't so fun when you don't have a shop at -20* in Alaska and they won't let you change your water pump in the Motor Pool....oh the memories of those little tiny nuts on my old '84 X-cab 22r...oh yeah, replace it soon

UPDATE: The water pump was going bad, but it probably didn't need to be replaced. I had a pinhole sized leak in a hose that wouldn't leak until it warmed up and then t-stat opened. That's where the the coolant was coming from. The noise was coincidental. It was the AC clutch(even though the AC is off and not working) and its intermittent. Oh well. Its got a new water pump now, and the only hose I didn't replace from when I tracked down the original overheating problem has been replaced so now, the entire cooling system has been done(radiator, t-stat, hoses, water pump, fan clutch, toyota red coolant...)
Hope this helps someone else.

My water pump is getting BADDDDDD and it sounds like I'm supercharged, one way to see if the pump is bad is to jiggle the fan and if it moves up and down the pump is getting crappy...

Whining is bad because it's taking out your timing chain cover. Better to change it sooner than later, timing chain covers are a LOT more work than a simple waterpump job.

I just replaced it literally less than 15 minutes ago... and no it wasn't even near my timing chain cover, it was fine the bearing was just toasted.. took me about 45 minutes to do the whole ordeal, I've only replaced three of the mother ****ers in the past month and half, I'm getting quick at these! The one on my van went out so I replaced it, three days later that one went to , so I went and got a replacement and put it in... then the one in my truck does out, so I bought a DURALAST one for it, don't friggin buy VALUCRAFT its more like VALU-CRAP...
