LOCKER FAQ
I see a ton of questions posted about lockers and what to get.
I just wanted to try and answer those questions here, since i feel that they all have the same answer.
First of all, when looking at anything you put into your truck, you have to look at budget. Many of you are looking for the cheapest possible set up, and i can feel that. I've been there.
Keep in mind that, as with most things in life, you don't get to have your cake and eat it too.
Sure, you can put a spool or a lunchbox in, and it will make a difference off road, but you will have handling characteristics on road that will be different than before.
I see MANY questions asking "how will this affect my dd?" or "is this okay for my dd?" or "what do i need to do this trail?"
The answer to all of those questions is that it depends on you. Every locker choice out there has a drawback. Bar none. Spools are cheap, but quirky and wear tires, and ARB's are a spool when you want it, open when you want it, but they cost a lot.
How will this affect your DD? The only person who can answer that is you. Read the thread i linked above to get an idea of what the characteristcs are, and then see if they are something you could live with. It will depend on how you drive, on what conditions you see (rain, snow, hurricane, etc...), and how anal you are about your truck.
Personally, i could never drive anything but an ARB on the road. I'm just like that. Some claim that detroits are unnoticeable, other say they are intollerable. No one can answer these questions except you.
The point I'm getting at here is that, asking online about something as personal as driving characterstics is going to get you the entire spectrum of answers. I'm not saying don't ask, by all means. But understand that you must take things with a grain of salt. I know several people who would post up and say you'd be fine with a spool. I'd post up and say that you are a fool to get anything less than an ARB. Maybe you have money, maybe you don't, maybe you are anal, maybe not.
Read, and research, but in the end, figure out what you can deal with, and what fits your wallet.
