Went mudding... Now idiot lights are on!

I took my 91 4runner into the mudpit and on some gravel roads the other day, played around a little, nothing too bad, a couple potholes I wasn't able to miss, but on the way out I noticed the A/T oil temp, batt, and park light were all on, aswell my DTRL don't work now either. I am guessing I've blown a fuse or a wire has come undone, as this all happened together...

The A/T fluid is just fine, parking brake is not on, I haven't had a chance to fully check out the charging system, but the truck runs with the batt unconnected, and his driven fine for 100k or so on the way back from the lake.

Anyone have any ideas?

i dont have the a/t temp light as i've got a m/t, but the batt & e-brake lights mean the alt isnt charging properly. check the voltage and make sure its around 14 v while running, and 12.something while the engine is off. perhaps the voltage regulator kicked the bucket? if it still runs with the battery disconnected then it must be working to some degree atleast

The alt is probably very dirty, clean it with some electric parts cleaner and wash down the enginebay.

There'a a plug on the alternator that comes out sometimes that will account for the charge and brake lights, but I don't know about the rest.

dont spray the alternator with water... thats how i killed one of mine, if anything spray with some parts cleaner like mentioned above and let it dry out before trying to start it. on the 3.0 toyota alternators they do not like water so much im on my 3rd one in about 3 months

I don't think there are any standard alternators that like water.

Anyway, alternator's your problem.

I would think spraying the alt with water would be fine. CLEAN water, and let it dry before you crank it. Water, DRY, Electrical parts cleaner (also a water displacer) and then crank her up.... might want to make sure your batt is good and charged also, since your having Alt problems...

A new alt fixed the problem, I was planning on doing the GM upgrade in the near future anyways.
