wheel bearing q's

hey all. so i was getting an alignment and they told me to that my front wheel bearings had "movement" in them.

my question is: should i replace the bearings, tighten/repack them, or is it one of those things where i'll need to open 'em up first. BTW, i do have a hydrolic press at my disposal.

i'm following this thread unless anyone has a better one.....

thanks for any help!!!

Have they ever been replaced/repacked? Easy to do yourself so don't pay someone else to do it...and certainly not that place that said they had "movement" in them.

It's kind of a messy job, but not that hard. The worst part (if you've never done it before) is getting the cone washers loose from the hubs.

Try to get this done relatively soon. I had a somewhat loose bearing that I neglected for too long and it seized up on me two hours from home. That' was a mess. That was on my trail rig, but I noticed once that my '94 daily driver had some play in the bearings also. Fixed those before they became a problem.

Unless you pull it apart and see obvious signs on wear, you should be good with repacking the old bearings and reusing them.
