clutch and tranny problem take 2

Not to repeat myself but I've got more questions. I wanna be sure about this before dropping $300 on a clutch and flywheel.

Today my clutch problem got really bad - I can't shift into any gear, for the most part, but at times I can force it into gear. Definitely can't shift into reverse with the engine running. I can shift normally with the engine stopped.

Is it more likely to be faulty hydraulics (ie master and slave) or a faulty disk or pressure plate? I know changing hydraulics is easy but it's also about $150 for the parts from anywhere I can find them (can't find rebuild kits either) so I don't want to change them needlessly.

Note that when I force the tranny into gear with the engine running RPMs don't drop much if at all and the truck doesn't try to creep or anything. Also, the clutch doesn't slip at all ever.

Is my tranny faulty? :/

Thanks for the advice,

Isaac

This site may be of some help.

It's all about manuals and such, guys on the forum probably know more about transmissions than anyone.

I just had to replace my master cyl, I also pressed the pedal and nothing happened.

I've had to replace both the master and slave at this point, slave twice.

the parts guy sold my girlfriend the most expensive slave cyl and it was only $30, they did have one in their computer for $18. the master was only $38. both units took all of 30 minutes (total time)to swap. I did the gravity bleed when I was done, that took another 45 min.

my clutch only had 30k miles on it, so I knew it was something in the hydraulic system.

who's trying to charge ya $150 for a master and slave cyl??????

I got mine at napa.

Could definitely be your shifter seat and shifter socket... Good thread about this going on right now:

Though the latter parts are mostly just venting my undying hatred (isn't there a stronger word than hate?) of UPS...

ups sucks. i had my shift boot off today and the shifter does look a little wobbly at the seat. maybe i'll order a new bushing and see if that helps.

any way anyone can measure the total extension of their slave rod on a 3VZE?

oh, and napa's prices are about $75 for the master and $35 for the slave + taxes. no idea why they're so expensive.

Check your clutch pedal braket. I replaced the master and slave cylinder before I realized I had a crack in the pedal assembly. When you pressed the clutch it would just bend the bracket, not letting the push rod go all the way into the MC.

My 90" is having some what of the same problems. I cant shift it, but my clutch isnt really mussy maby a tiny but not bad. My fluids were full and I could not seem to find any leaks. And if my foot isnt on the brakes the thing wants to drive like an auto. I can also smell an see smoke from the clutch. So I'm guessing its time for a new clutch is this correct?
