is there dirt/forigen object in the plastic track in wich the shift lever follows? or possably cracked or broken. it may be "locking" the lever because the plastic cover is jammed up..

if not, go on a dirt road and try to shift it out while rolling a bit, may be the tourque load on the drivetrain holding it there

Transfer case issue

Had just installed a used JDM motor, transmission & transfer case into my 1994 4runner & first thing I noticed is 4wd light on, & stuck in 4Hi, even though lever is in 2HI... Its definetly engaged as you jack up the rear & it will pull itself off the jack...

yet another reason to never buy those Jap crate parts....

You may have put the shifter in wrong. Double check your transfer case lever, and make sure its in the correct slot.

Yeah post up a pic of your transfer case shifting linkage (under the truck). Its pretty easy to get that bound up (especially if you have a bodylift).

My 1995 Hilux 4x4 had the problem of not coming out of four wheel drive.
I would go into reverse to clear it. In one instance I traveled over 60 feet before the transfer case disengaged.

Molly's won't stay in 4Low - maybe we need to get the trucks together and they'll balance each other out!

try going under the truck with the truck in nuetral and the tires blocked so it doesn't roll anywhere and try playing with the linkage that way. might work

i have the 91 pickup with manual hubs.

the 4wd light wont go off and when i unlock the hubs and put the 4wd lever in neutral and try to drive forward nothing happens it's like everything is disengaged .

4wd works fine though . anyone know what to do ?

Check for a leak to your ADD. If the valve is stuck one way, switch the lines, see if it changes anything. If not, the valve is stuck in one spot. This will get you out of 4wd at least.

If you put the 4wd in neutral, of course you're not going to go anywhere. It's in neutral.

Vehicles equipped with manual hubs aren't going to have ADD systems. Unless, someone has swapped out the hubs. Even then, you're out of 4wd once the transfer case is set to 2wd drive. Just the axle is still locked in together with the drivetrain.

now i know and knowing is half the battle. =)

i got it figured out though. all i needed to do was just back up a bit and push in the clutch and while the truck was still moving i pull back on the 4x4 lever and it popped right outo of 4wd.
